Upon entering the malt shop with Liv, I immediately took notice of three boys who looked up at me with a mixture of curious to to suspicious looks. A rather muscular boy stood up, eyeing me up and down with a suspicious eye. He was about my height but his build made him appear as if he were carved out of solid stone. His hazel eyes seemed to burn like wild fire; I found it hard not to shudder. The second boy casually raised a hand as if to stop the first boy. He was taller but significantly more slender. At first, I thought this guy would not be able to stop the first boy until I saw his face. It was pale with cold, calculating black in black eyes that seemed to burn into my very soul. I wagered that a single glare could stop anyone in their tracks in a heart beat. The third boy remained motionless in his seat with his arms folded in front of him. He raised a single eyebrow upon seeing me but did not speak.
"A newcomer...?" The first boy asked.
"This is Frank Vance." Calmly, Liv explained. "His family just moved into the city; his parents are private and paranormal investigators... ghost file chasers."
The second boy grunted. "I'm Geo." Calmly, he said. "My muscular friend is Ted and my quiet friend is Steve.'
"They are three of the boys who see me as a sister I forewarned you who would have questions." Serious, Liv said.
"Why is he with you, Liv?" Gruffly, Ted demanded.
"She offered to show me the sights." Standing my ground, I replied. "If you suspect me of anything, why don't you join us?"
Ted scoffed. "It's not me you need to worry about, friend." With a half smile, he retorted.
I turned to Liv who merely gave an innocent smile. "My family is among the richest in the world." Softly, she said. "It's nothing I like to brag about, though."
"Let me guess." Frowning, I said. "Anything your heart desires is at your fingertips but their affections." I then turned to the boys who were all eyeing me with harden faces now. "The rest of you have similar issues hence you bonded."
"The newcomer gets a gold star." Smiling, Liv said. "You truly are a detective at heart."
"So what bonds you to us then?" Curious, Steve asked, speaking for the first time.
"My parents lead interesting lives to say the least." Wincing, I replied. "They chase cold cases which can and has earned them more than a few enemies."
"So you have a target on your back through association." Sighing, Liv said. "These enemies will target you to get to them."
"Pretty much..." Sighing, i replied. "We came here to sort of start over."
Geo grunted. "Well Liv seems to trust you enough so we'll give you some advice." Firmly, he said. "Don't start any small talk with anyone for a while, let them come to you."
"Don't advertise that your parents are private investigators." Serious, Ted added. "Let them do that so you don't send the wrong signals without meaning to."
"As you might have guessed, this city has seen its share of troubled times." Also serious, Steve added. "Don't dig too deep into it; you might not like what you find."
"That and you may find it harder to get out than it was to get in." Darkly, Liv said. She then smiled. "Welcome to Waterfront City, Frank Vance."
"That escalated quickly..." With a nervous smile, I thought.
