Chapter #3

Taking your Chances

    by: PrivateValentine Author IconMail Icon
You're amazed you're actually considering this. Or, maybe you're not too amazed. She is cute, you just admitted that much to yourself. And if it was only for two days, what would be the real harm? You could even pick her twice and still be fine. Granted, you don't think she'll respond favorably, but if that's your only reason not to, well...either she'd get over it, or she'd never speak with you again. And you only know her through Kyle anyway.

...Yeah. Actually, this is a really good chance most people would never get. Someone else's opinion isn't a good excuse to pass it up, right? It'd be a waste not to at least try it. So, with your mind made up, you walk straight towards Danielle's body. You hear her voice yelling, even feel a chill pass through your ethereal wrist as she tries, and fails, to stop you, and then...

You jerk forward, alternately swallowing and gasping for air. Your breath sounds different. It feels different. Everything feels different. You look down at yourself, and sure enough you see a pair of breasts, and slim, hairless arms that end in slim, feminine hands. Your smaller height gives you the feeling of being stuffed in a box that's too small, but as you straighten your posture, you find you're already standing straight, and your hair swishes against your back. The feeling of your legs, as well as what's between them, is distracting, but you resist the urge to investigate here and now.

Danielle's voice snaps you out of your reverie. "Tim! What the hell, why would you do that?!"

You turn around to face her, only slightly uncoordinated, and let out a sheepish laugh, face reddening. "S-sorry, I just...wanted to, I guess?" It's a copy of Danielle's voice that you speak with. It's not surprising, exactly, but your hesitation gives an entirely different tone than her usual brazenness.

Danielle looks about to respond, but Vivienne claps her hands once, and you face her again. She's beaming. "I must say I'm surprised, though I don't think you've made a bad choice! Well then, Danielle...or should I say, 'original' Danielle, it's your turn!"

Danielle glares at you, and reaches out as if to take her body back from you. You watch her hand meet your shoulder, but feel nothing as it stops. Danielle looks at Vivienne. "...I want my own body."

"Not an option, unfortunately," says Vivienne, shrugging. It's clear from her tone she doesn't consider it 'unfortunate' at all. "Well, that's incentive for you to return on your own next time! But until then, I'm afraid you'll have to pose as a boy."

"...Fine." Giving you one last glare, Danielle turns around and jumps into Kyle's body, met with a groan by its original owner.

Kyle's body, now inhabited by Danielle, blinks a few times. "...Ugh. Gross. Never wanted to be my own brother, but I've gotta stop Tim from messing with my body somehow."

"I wasn't planning on messing with anything!" you protest.

"Yeah, well, now I know you won't," says Danielle.

"Now now, play nice!" says Vivienne, clearly having to hold back laughter. "Kyle? If you would?"

Hesitantly, Kyle steps into your previous body, rolling his shoulders. "I don't like this at all..."

"Gee, thanks," you say.

"You started it, man!" Kyle whines.

"Well, now that your decisions are made, I'm afraid you'll need my spell if you want to change your minds!" says Vivienne cheerfully. "So, you have two days with your current bodies, and then it's time for round two! Kyle will choose first, and Danielle last."

"Excuse me?!" says Danielle, putting one hand on "her" hip in a decidedly feminine manner.

"Would you rather Tim choose first every time?" Vivienne asks. "You'll choose first in round three, dear, no need to worry."

"I'm not worried, I'm pissed!" Danielle practically spits. With Kyle's body, she sounds even more threatening than usual...which is saying something.

"All the more reason to return," says Vivienne, unafraid. "Now, you three hurry on home!" With a wave of her fingers, all three of you spin to face the door, and a force pushes you out, stumbling.

"...Great," says Kyle sarcastically. "Knew this was a terrible idea...look, I'm gonna just go. Maybe this is all just a really bad dream, but even if it's not, I need to sleep on this. Bye." With that, he disappears into the woods, leaving you alone with Danielle.

"...Well?" she says, arms crossed.

You give her a bit of stinkeye before saying, "Look, I'm sorry, alright? I thought it'd be cool for a couple of days!"

"Do you have any idea how much you could screw up my life in 'a couple of days?' We're going home, Danielle, and I'm gonna make sure you don't get up to anything in my body."

"I told you, I wasn't planning on 'getting up to' anything," you snipe. You doubt resting for the evening will help Danielle's temperament, but you know parting ways with her will make it worse. The question is, if she's going to be mad at you for two days anyway, do you care?
