Cody was thankful that he had decided to sit back on his bed as the changes occurred. He had been holding the mirror in his left hand to see a better image of the growth, which he hoped would really become his brother. However as the head began to take shape, Cody felt himself loosing his left half. The mirror suddenly felt much more heavy as he struggled to hold it up. His gaze shifted to the room, as it appeared to slowly move around him. After a moment, he realized that the room was not moving, but his own head was. It was shifting sideways, inching towards the right. A small gap between his rapidly growing brother's head and his neck increased by the moment.
The process was happening more rapidly than Cody had thought. Suddenly, he felt himself falling backwards on to the bed. He had lost all sensation, all control of his left side. It happened so quickly that he did not have time to brace the half of the muscles he remained in control of. "Wow!" He said breathless. The process seemed to also be draining him of his strength. As wave of tiredness threatened to overtake him, but he forced himself to remain conscious. He wanted to the whole process through.
With a lot of effort, he pressed his right hand into the mattress and clenched his abdominal muscles so that he could lift his torso. It was quickly apparent that it was no longer just his torso. He shared it with his new brother's whose head and neck seemed to have completely formed. Having their torso raised off of the bed, his brother's unconscious head lolled to the left. The mirror had fallen from what was clearly his brother's hand now, onto the carpet. In fact, Cody realized that the entire left half of what used to be his body alone had changed, turning into what he assumed was his brother's half.
For the most part, their two halves of the torso seemed nearly identical. They seemed to be built the same with the same muscular frame. Of course, Cody thought that would make since considering they were sharing a single body. The skin on their left half, however, seemed to be a slightly tanner tint, as if his would be twin spent more time in the sun than he did. A small mole was also on the left side of their stomach. More surprisingly, his previously unmarked skin had the image of an uppercase I or the roman numeral 1 on the top-side of his brother's hand, just below the pointer-finger's knuckle and shifted to the right. Carefully, he lifted his hand from the mattress, wanting to check his own arm. But without his hand supporting the weight of their larger torso, he fell backwards on the bed, nearly smacking his forehead against his new brother.
"Nice one Cody..." He said to himself. "I knew that this coin would grow my brother from my body, and that we'd have to share, but I thought that meant we'd share everything, like control." It was clear that their body, more or less, seemed split evenly between them as much as locomotion and sensation was concerned. After about the middle of his chest, sensation seemed to disappear completely. The slight difference in their skin tones seemed to signify where Cody ended and his brother began. "Hmmm... Now that I think about it, maybe that is a good thing. We'll have to both agree on stuff so neither of us can force the other to do something they are completely against." For now, he chose to think of the split body as a good thing.
"But that means I won't be getting up until... whoever my new brother is wakes up." He sighed as he brought his hand up, intending to sweep his fingers through his hair. A writing on the top of his hand drew his attention. Cody found that his own hand bore a matching roman numeral 1 tattoo. It was just below the knuckle of his pointer finger and shifted to the left. He stared at it for a few seconds before the corners of his lips curled into a smile. "That must have been his corny idea." Cody smiled. He realized that the two roman numeral 1s were supposed to be touched together. They would make the roman numeral 2, or more accurately probably, the sign for Gemini or 'twins'.
Cody rested his hand on his chest, on the border between he and his brother. He drummed his fingers, feeling them touch their left pectoral, but it felt like he was touching someone else's. His brother's side tensed however, and he could feel the muscles in their united chest move. It was an odd sensation. Then, his brother's head moved, turned towards him. Cody took note that his brother looked like him, as if they were siblings. But, he could tell their were differences in their appearance. They were very much not identical, but similar. His brother had lighter hair, somewhere between his own brown and a blonde. His nose was more pointed. And finally when the eyes opened, he noted that his brother had hazel irises. "Cody..." His brother yawned. "Did it work?" Cody felt himself being tugged slightly to the left; he assumed that his brother was trying to shift himself, as if he was testing something. "It must have... I feel very different and we seem closer."
The question made Cody pause. He had his own but only voice it in his head, 'Were we not born like this?'
Cody then felt some muscles in his abdomen clench as his brother shoulder and head moved upward before falling back. Cody figured their must have been some overlap in their sensation. That was the only way he figured that he could feel some of those muscles move on their own. "I think it may take more time getting used to sharing than we thought." His brother commended. "Can we try at the same time? To sit up."
"Yeah..." Cody responded, and after a moment the name of his brother came to him. "...Andy."
