Karen then begins walking towards the stairs to up to her office as she holds you in her grasp. As she enters her office in matter of seconds she just places you on her desk as she quickly gets to work and you watch as she types on her computer keyboard.
She then begins to speak to you as you stand on her desk.
“Alright Mister. I first want to apologize for what happened. We urgently needed someone on the case here, but we should have given you more details before the change of management. On that case, the responsibility is all mine. Thankfully, we can have you at your original size with the shrinking machine. Hallas, maintenance is needed and some tests have to be run before we can use it again.”
Karen is feeling really tensed but she has to keep things professional.
“How long will it take?” you ask.
“Around 2 months if everything goes fine but we need a supervisor for this and the only two people capable of handling this are you and me. With my current position in the company, I won’t have the time to spent too much time on the project. That’s why I will have to find a way for you to run a team in your current state. Please give me a minute!”
She takes out a bunch of hamster tunnels and sticks them on the desk at the opposite site.
“Security first. Whatever happens, do not leave those at any circumstances. You don’t want to get crushed by accident. Also, they will allow you to have an easy path for the different areas. Just don’t travel too much. You will lose your stamina easier than before.”
You don’t know how to react for to this. Will you be able to run the lab in those circumstances? Also, you worry about your home. You’re living alone and some cleaning has to be done. By the way, how are you going to go home?
But first you have to train yourself to run the team.
It is a simple test where you have to run a team to do some simple spectrophotometry. The manipulation is simple but the around of work is enormous forcing you to lead the team the best you can to finish the work in time. Plus, your superior often simulates troubles in the lab by removing stuff to force the restocking, stopping a machine to mimic a breakdown, or forcing people to fail the manipulation to see how you react.
Travelling through the tubes and having an eye on everything is harder than with your previous size. Yet you manage to finish the work in advance. you reward the work of your team and ask for your boss’s review. She is satisfied.
The day come to an end and you have to ask for the unavoidable question.
“Hum … Manager. What will we do once the shift is over? Will you drive me home?”
She hesitates then shyly responds to you
“I’m afraid you won’t be safe there as you are now … if you had a relative to take care of you and with enough time to drive you here, we could have a deal with that person. But since no one can fulfill those criteria’s, …”
