Sitting on a small hill, it's concrete walls looking down across the rest of the sleepy city, the night frames the complex of Havisham College for Girls against the moonlit sky and makes a stark outline. If someone looked very closely, some nights they might see odd waving shapes among the three buildings that make up the college, as if tentacles were reaching for the skies from the drab halls.
Tonight however Keith Patterson doesn't see that. Instead he just wonders what it's like in there. There are rumors the police have been called lately, and perhaps disappearances of students. There was an article in the paper yesterday claiming that it's some sort of insurance scam, and another claiming a cult has starting abducting the girls for their own horrendous purposes. He chuckles at that. This city is not exactly the bustling, interesting place the papers claim, and he highly doubts anything weird like that ever happens here.
Keith shakes his head, heading up the street towards the slightly eerie buildings of the college on his way home. There is definitely something just wrong about the place and he has trouble putting his finger on it quite. Then, as he passes by the tall iron gates, he sees something from the corner of his eye in the college grounds.
Stopping he backtracks, looking in through the gates into the large courtyard in the central building which surrounds it like a multistory Roman villa. In the looming shadows of the building there is a spot in the courtyard... glowing. He frowns, staring, putting his hands against the iron bars as he tries to make out what that odd purplish light is.
Then a second spot of light appears, close to the first, and... something very strange happens, the lights twist, reacting to one another, seeming to bend in directions that makes his brain hurt just to even look at, then... A wrenching sensation reaches into his heart and feels like it's yanking hard. His whole self seems stretched, as if he were putty and something had a whole load of painful hooks in his skin heaving tightly!
"Aaarrgh!" Keith yells, then collapses, the body tumbling to the floor, lifeless, a faint purple sheen shooting from it into the maelstrom of purple light that continues to warp and twist in ways that seemingly defy nature.
