School

Jane took a long breath when she left the house, basking in the feeling of good health she never had on her childhood. She was wary this wasn't going to last, but for now it was lasting more than she expected and her perspective changing a bit, now wanting to embrace it while she could. She even felt like running to the bus stop and got a completely new sensation in her body as a reward, instead of aching all over like it used to do, she felt joyful and excited, her body running with endorphins and adrenaline as if encouraging her to do even more. But she wasn't going to push it and she had things to do so she took the bus and went to school.

To Jane's surprise and delight, she still felt amazing and the few friends she had all noted it just like her dad did. This made Jane feel happy, she knew she was feeling extra well today but it was unusual that everyone could notice it like that. Going to the bathroom she took another look at the mirror and gasped in surprise seeing how not only the color on her face was still there but how she also felt prettier than ever, even in the days that she spent hours with makeup. Her brown hair looked like it had more volume and something in her face just looked slightly different, more radiant which made her look more attractive.

"What is going on? I hope it lasts" Jane thought to herself and gave the mirror one last look before leaving the bathroom and bumping into someone's chest.. "Of course the luck couldn't last" was what she thought until she saw who she bumped with.

"Oh my, sorry.. oh my God, Jane!" The tall blonde girl looked down at her old friend and apologized profusely but Jane only giggled. She hated when she bumped into people like that because most times it ended with her on the floor and it made her feel bad at her small and frail body, but not today. Today she could resist the impact and she was glad it was Alice of all people.

"Don't worry! How have you been?" Jane asked

"You know, busy as usual.. how about you? Wow, you look fantastic!" Alice gushed and Jane felt warm inside, for some reason it hit different when the praise came from someone like Alice of all people

"Really?"

"I haven't seen you in a while but you look almost like a new person! What was it? Makeup? New tan? Some new hair product?" Alice kept praising Jane for her looks wondering what was the secret. Jane giggling again just realizing Alice was so interested in that kind of stuff but it made sense, she was after all a beautiful cheerleader that took pride on her looks.

"Actually I don't know.. I just woke up feeling a lot better than usual today" Jane confessed, still praying that even if her body became frail again she would be able to retain some of this. Alice was always friendly to her, but safe to say she never complimented her looks in such a way ever before.

"Really? So you no longer feel.. you know... Oh look at the time, I have to run! Hope I can talk more with you soon!" Alice asked tastefully, she knew about Jane's condition but after not talking to her in a while it was normal she didn't know what was her current state and to be fair, neither did Jane at the moment. However the busy girl left and Jane groaned already missing her. Nothing against her other friends but Jane really cherished the times with her back then in middle school and felt grateful for all they shared back then, it was a bond she didn't have with anyone currently at school. Now she could only look up with both admiration and envy at Alice because she was doing and achieving so much while she felt safer and comfortable in the shadows with the outcasts.

With a sigh Jane resolved to not let this ruin her day though, and wondered if she should try playing a sport today as long as she remained with that energy and good feeling within her, she could probably talk more to Alice that way! She knew it was impossible but she still could daydream with her body finally developing and being as tall and athletic as her friend.
