Chapter #3

Lunch

The rest of the academic day went smoothly for Jack. Boring, but smooth. Most of the formalities of each class were covered that day, with all of his classes covering the syllabus and basic expectations for what the course will be and how to succeed in it, and other information of the sort. But now, all of that was over and Jack had the time to do whatever he wanted. During the day, Jack had made a few acquaintances and got their numbers, including Emerson prior to classes beginning, Nora and Andrea during his first period, a guy named Bruce during his second period, who was practically just a blonde version of Jack, only a bit taller, and Becca, a sophomore who, as Jack noticed, received quite a lot of attention from both boys and girls alike for her stunning appearance. Simply put, the combination of her wavy blonde hair, blue eyes, and outstanding figure made girls jealous and boys fall head over heels.

Meeting all these people made Jack relax. Knowing he had people to talk to was very much reassuring. Coming into a foreign environment like college and not making any friends was something he somewhat was afraid of, but he no longer had to worry about that. If he was able to make friends that easily, there should be plenty more where that came from. In the meantime, though, Jack could either talk with these newfound friends or do something new. Even though it was only the first day of college and what was taught was only preliminary information for the courses, Jack was pretty tired, and he decided that for a while he was only to kick back in his dorm and play video games.

He did this for an hour and a half or so, before realizing that he was hungry. Jack looked at his phone, then noticed that both Emerson and Nora had texted him, inviting him to lunch not that long ago. He texted them back, explaining that perhaps he could meet up with them both. They each agreed to the idea. Ten minutes later, the trio was in the dining hall and chowing down.

"So, how was your guys' day?" Nora asked. Both Emerson and Jack nodded, making her laugh. "It was all right, I mean there wasn't anything really to do. All there was was syllabi and boring presentations," Emerson told. Jack explained that he had a similar experience and an awkward silence fell over the group. Jack laughed at the fact, then spoke. "Well, do you guys have anything planned for tonight?". Emerson looked at his plate and Nora almost jumped in her seat. "Yeah! Andrea and I are going to our first college party, you guys interested in coming?" she excitedly asked. Emerson and Jack simultaneously shook their heads, causing Nora to frown.

"Sorry, Nora, I don't think I'm down for that kind of excitement my first night. Maybe this weekend, if there's a party available," Jack said. Emerson nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I don't think I have the energy for a party my first night either. I'll probably just go back to my dorm and play video games with my roommate or something". Nora huffed. "You're a pair of lemons, you know that?". The boys chuckled and continued to scarf down their food. Five minutes later, the three finished with their lunch and proceeded to the dining hall's dish drop off. "Well, either of you at least down for a movie with Andrea and I tomorrow?" Nora offered. Emerson sighed, and shook his head again. "I'm so sorry, I promised to go out to a lake about an hour away with some other friends". Nora rolled her eyes, then looked at Jack. Jack shrugged. "Sure, I've got nothing going on. What time were you thinking?".

"Since it's a Thursday and we still got classes on Friday, or at least some of us do," Nora glared at Emerson, who laughed, "I was thinking of around 5 or 5:30. Does that work?" she turned to Jack. "Yeah, I'm okay with that. I'll meet you guys outside your dorm at like 4:30". Nora smiled, dropped her plate off, then said bye and was out of the building. Jack and Emerson quickly dismissed each other and went back to their respective dorms.

When the following day comes, how is Jack's day?
