The young college student knew what it felt like to be different, so she decided to help Madeline. Heather went to the front desk. “Excuse me,” Heather said to the young woman still on her phone, “Could I get a locker?”
The girl shoved a cheap lock and key to Heather, “Take your pick.”
Heather decided not to remind the girl that there was a fee for using the pool and getting a locker, “Thanks. Do you have a lost and found?”
“Third door on the left,” The girl pointed, “Right before the climbing wall.”
“Great,” Heather smiled. The young woman followed the girl’s directions and found herself in a large storage closet filled with long-forgotten umbrellas, coats, and toys. “They really should clean this place out,” Heather said as she looked at an old jack-in-the-box with a tye-dye box. Nevertheless, the college student quickly looked over the swimwear. “Perfect,” Heather remarked as she took a child’s one-piece bathing suit and made her way to the women’s changing room. “I’ll say I’m ten,” Heather told herself as she locked herself in a stall. “It’ll be easier to explain my breasts.” While the young woman took a shower, she looked at her bathing suit; it was pink with rubber ducks on the chest area, it was a little babyish, but that would only help her. After washing herself, Heather shrank herself to around the size of a child and put on her disguise. “I look pretty darn cute,” Heather kissed her reflection before leaving her belongings in a locker. “Showtime!” Heather said to herself as she headed to the pool.
The shrunken woman quickly located the swim class who were waiting at the kiddie pool for class to start. Madeline seemed right to worry as she was the biggest kid in the class; one child didn’t look any bigger than Delilah. Heather cleared her throat, “Excuse me, is this the swim class?”
Madeline looked at Heather with hope, “Are you in the class?”
“Yeah,” Heather pretended to be embarrassed. “I know I’m pretty old, but….”
“It’s okay,” Madeline interrupted with a smile. “Come sit by me; my name is Madeline; what’s yours?”
“Heather,” The young woman replied with a grin, happy that her plan was working.
“Hey, everybody!” A voice called, and Heather nearly froze at the familiar sound. A red-haired young woman asked, “Are we ready to learn how to swim?”
“Yes!” The kids eagerly responded while Heather looked over her shoulder and confirmed what she suspected. The girl teaching the swimming class was Jessica, one of Heather’s friends from college! “Dam it!” Heather thought to herself, “She said she’d be in town for the summer but promised she’d call when she got here!” Heather had never told Jessica about her powers, so what if the redhead recognized her?
What should Heather do?
