Heather smiled as she figured out what to do today. “Just call me Heather St. Vincent, undercover babysitter.” The college woman posed like she was in a buddy cop movie. “Look out, bad babysitters; spank a kid? Take a text? Pretend to take a call during a diaper change? I’m watching you.” Heather chuckled to herself as she went to the counter. “Excuse me,” The young woman behind the counter didn’t even blink while she focused on her phone. “Excuse me!”
The girl sighed and looked up, “What?”
Heather slid five dollars across the counter, “I would like to rent a locker.”
“So what do you want?” The girl demanded as she practically threw a key at Heather, “A medal?”
“Thank you,” Heather struggled to smile, but the girl had already returned her full attention to her phone. “If the rest of the staff is as bad as her, this place is in big trouble.”
Heather went to the locker room and put away her keys, phone, wallet, and bra. “Okay,” The college woman ensured no one was looking before shrinking to Delilah’s size. “Time to go to pwaygroup.”
Heather walked across the building to the playgroup. “Um,” Heather called as she walked into the room while making her best impression of her toddler sister. “Dis da pwaygwop?”
A young woman with red hair knelt to Heather’s level. “Hi there, Sweetie. Yes, this is the playgroup. My name is Ms. Chloe.” The redhead looked around. “Is your mommy or daddy here?”
“They go swim,” Heather answered.
“Oh,” Chloe’s smile fell. “Well, why don’t you go find some little friends to play with?”
