Meanwhile, Wyona sat in the passenger seat of Rex's car, still confused as to why she'd been rescued, for lack of a better word. "Excuse me, Mr. Rex, was it? Why exactly did you do that back there? Setting us free, I mean."
"To put it simply, because I need your help. Remember when I asked you about the Batt Brothers? You see, I'm a special member of the government's branch of enforcement. Basically, I'm a government sanctioned bounty hunter. As such, I can deputize anyone I deem necessary to help me with my job."
"What does that have to do with me?"
"You've seen what the Batt Brothers look like. I haven't. So, here's the deal. Help me find these three, bring them in dead or alive, and I agree to get you protected status, and your freedom, as well as half the money from the bounty. Afterwards, you'll be free to do as you please."
Wyona couldn't believe her luck! "You'd really do all that for me?" Rex nodded "Let's just say I've always had a soft spot for humans. Don't really enjoy killing them for anything, unless it's absolutely necessary. I hear the Batt Brothers are still somewhere in this county. Probably under an assumed name, looking for a place to lay low. For now, what do you say to a little rest?"
Rex pulled into a motel parking lot. He was even gracious enough to rent separate rooms for the two of them.
