Leader Thomas told us a lot that day including how this camp came to be and we kids slowly relaxed. We also got something to eat during a break, a funny looking sandwich shaped like a foot with little tomatoes in place of the toes, but soon it was evening.
Leader Thomas “Okey, now that I'm looking out of the window, it's about time to get your rooms and slowly go to sleep. The supervisors will now call out your names and then you will also find out who you will be sharing a room with for your time here. Thanks again for your attention and good night.”
Leader Thomas walked off the stage and we all clapped. Now it was exciting for me to see, what kind of roommates I would get. The supervisors called out three names and then they left the room together. I noticed that they tried to put more or less kids the same age in one room and the few girls all had their own rooms, to which they were brought by female supervisors.
Now a new supervisor went on stage, who had Noah on his name tag.
Supervisor Noah now called out three names "Marvin Miller, Zack Smirnow and Jack Taylor."
I got up first, and shortly after, Zack and Jack, who were sitting a few rows behind me. When I took a closer look at them, both of them made a good impression. Zack was a little taller and had blond hair and Jack looked a little younger and had brown hair. Let's see what the time here might bring.
Supervisor Noah "Now you three can come with me and I'll show you to your new room."
Noah now led us out of the event room and down the stairs.
Supervisor Noah said meanwhile “Your room number is A020, if you have to go somewhere, the room number usually tells you where you have to go. The first letter stands for the wing or for an outbuilding, the first digit stands for the floor, U stands for the basement 0 for the ground floor and 1 for the first floor.
We walked along the A wing and there was our room A020. Noah opened the door for us and as we walked into our room, I thought it was really cool. We had a large closet with our suitcases in front of it. Furthermore, we had a couch and an armchair that stood at a table and also our own bathroom. The only surprising thing was that we didn't have three single beds, but a bunk bed consisting of three beds. But this bunk bed looked weird, the top two bunks had no pillows, but the blanket of the second one was reversed and the shape of the bottom one looked very strange.
Noah spoke up. "I'll tell you a little bit about your room. You can put your clothes in the wardrobe as normal, next to it there is a shelf for your shoes. Of course you can walk around with shoes here in the building, but every room here and every corridor has underfloor heating, so you can walk around with socks or barefoot without any problems. The floors here are also mopped twice a day, so everything stays clean. Now look at the table, you can pull out two stocks out of it to tie up your feet.” At the time, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a stock, but seeing it made me want try one out.
Noah continued, “Your bathroom is normal, as you should know it in your own home. The really special thing is the sleep constellation. As you've probably noticed, the top two beds don't have pillows, do you want to see what you're sleeping on instead?"
We took a closer look at the beds and were puzzled a bit, the mattress had a large hole in the head area.
Noah asked, "Can you guess what you're going to sleep on?"
Jack laughed and asked "Really, seriously? That's so cool."
Zack and I look at each other questioningly and Zack asked "What exactly are we going to sleep on now?"
Jack replied, "Quite simply, the one above sleeps on the soles of the feet of the one below."
Zack and I now looked questioningly at Noah and asked "Is that right?"
Supervisor Noah replied, "Yup, Jack's right the one above sleeps on the soles of the one below him."
I asked Noah, "That's awesome, so now can we choose on which mattress we are gonna sleep?"
Noah replied, "No, it's not like that. So that you can take turns, both the feet you sleep on and the bed, there is a random number generator here by the bed that, when the button is pressed, chooses the sleep constellation for the day."
I asked Noah again "Ah ok that's cool and why does the bottom bunk look so weird now?"
Noah replied, "You can find out for yourself by removing the blanket."
So I took the blanket and removed it. And what came to light amazed the three of us. It wasn't a mattress, no, instead of a mattress, a huge foot appeared.
Noah said, "That bed is what's really special about this room. A few supervisors developed it and perfected it over the years. It feels like a real foot, it's also warm and smells like a real foot and sometimes it can be sweaty too.”
We three boys were still amazed and couldn't really believe it.
Noah continued, "And each of your beds has a height adjustment so that you can easily get in and out of the bed, but the upper one can also sleep well on the feet of the lower one. That's it from my side, if there's anything else you can come to my room at any time, that's A001. Oh yes, and tomorrow morning there will be breakfast at 7:00 a.m. there you will find out everything else and please be early. Then I wish you a good night.”
And so Noah left the room, leaving the three of us. What should we do next now?
