"Whelp, I really need some caffeine. See you all in the village." Betty buzzed down the right path.
Tony shrugged which made his armor clank, "Better go after her huh?"
The bouncing of his new gray beard singled Arnold's agreement, "yes maybe we can find the jokers who glued this to my face. I'll give him a right smack with this cane I will."
Following close behind Mary added her two cents, "Hope they have some proper clothes," she shivered as a small breeze touched her bare midriff.
It didn't take long for them to see the lights up ahead as well as the shadows of people cast by these glowing lanterns. "There it is, straight ahead." Tony felt the need to state the obvious.
Despite his form's old appearance Arnold found that he still had sharp eyes, "doesn't look like much but we're bound to stay out of trouble there.
Growl!
Four chills ran down four spines as glowing yellow stared throw the shadows of the trees. Hostility emanates in waves.
"Nice doggies," gulped Arnold.
They are not dogs instead horned wolves the size of a horse. Two for each member of the group.
Back and forth Arnold swang his wizard staff till one of the wolves caught and ripped it from his grasp, he was so terrified that he started to flay his arms sending fireballs shooting everywhere like short-range falling stars.
"Watch it!"
"Hey, you almost took my head off."
"Hot! Hot!"
Only when Arnold opened his eyes did he see that he had turned the two wolves into ash as well as one for his kids but no Mary.
Narza was meant to be a terrifying monster in woman form, she would have had the giant wolves for breakfast but this was Mary a middle-aged housewife. Backed up to a tree, she had her hands raised begging them, "Please go away, I swear I'll never throw a frying pan at a dog again!"
The boldest of the pair leaped forward with their maw open and teeth sharp going straight throw her thigh. A scream preceded a primal instinct to fight back. Mary grabbed the massive canine by the tall and throw him into the sky and up and up he went till he was a twinkle in the sky. "whoa, I'm strong!" a wicked grin spread across Mary's face as she looked at the other wolf.
A great punch sent the wolf shooting into the woods, teeth raining down in its wake. "yay now that's something I have always wanted to do." Mary's yell reach the birds who had never seen a falling wolf star.
Tony had been doing quite well in his duel with the wolves, delivering several bleeding blows which only seemed to make them madder, he was a natural with swordplay. This was all before a flying fireball melted his sword leaving him weaponless. The only upside was that one of the wolves was now dirt for cleanup.
Determined not to go down without a fight, Tony ripped a branch off a tree and lifted it like a club. A wave of knowledge came over him as if every single way to swing a club was written on a chalkboard which was his brain.
Tony swings into the wolf's chin then nose and finally right in the chest. The beast wobbled in pain before collapsing and Tony jumped for joy only to slip face-first into the mud.
Betty and her wolf were engaged in a game of tag, "missed and missed again. You were close that time!" Every now and then Betty would slow her flying speed just enough for the wolf to catch up who would attempt to bite her in half, only to just pick up speed at the last moment letting the beast nip its own tongue.
She had attempted to use her ice breath when they first attacked but only covered them in a thin layer of frost much like that on a morning lawn. The two had been running this game for five minutes as the other disposed of their opponents. Now Betty's wings started to hurt and the monster wolf was nipping her heels for real.
"I need to stop this quick! Let's see what else can I do besides flying and Ice breath, oh right!"
The wolf lunged once again but this time its Pixie prey released a bright light, blinding it. A good thing too or else it wouldn't have hit the tree head-on.
The mismatched band reconvenes in the center of the battle all feeling rather confident. Plus had fully accepted that they seemed to be in a fantasy roleplaying something.
Tony glanced at the wolves, "You know I have a friend who played something like this and he said that you can get money from the pelts of beast you've slain."
Whilst Mary was beginning to see the benefits of being an amazon barbarian, she is not inclined to their behavior. "ick, no we are not doing that."
Arnold who was letting Betty sit on his right shoulder for a respite, "Let's take them to the village and see what they can do about them."
Mary carried two of the wolves over her shoulder with ease, man, she loved having the strength of five men in each arm but even that was unbalanced by the weight of an extra wolf on one side. So Tony carried it due to his armor enchantment yet it was still heavy.
Somehow in the back of Arnold's mind, he knew that he once possessed a lightweight spell.
The family came to the entrance to a great wooden arch and there were people streaming out of it. Ignoring the odd five they stream mindlessly past them, all attempts to get their attention in vain.
Till Mary grabbed one by the shirt and lifted him to eye level, "Hey where's the fire, buster!"
"Ogres!" was all he said, before the house nearest to the arch went up in a fire-less explosion and eight hill-sized giants with great claws came bellowing out.
