Look around in his own room

As Fred was weighing out his options, he started to look around inside his own room to maybe find something which can be useful for him. As he had no access to his phone he started to look for anything which could help him to get the attention of one of his sisters. At his desk he saw a pen and some paper laying on the ground, maybe he could use this to write a message. As he heard some rumbling noises outside he knew he had to do something. What did he do?
