At this age, children learn the bases of magic. That means how mana can create magic, or it interacts with the 12 elements, and how to control the 3 easiest of them: fire, cold and electricity.
The kids with enough power can also try to use magic.
You’ve tried to use it but for some reason, it didn’t work. The teacher just told you you’re just not ready yet.
You also learn some information about the outside world: the numerous kingdoms and their reputations, the creatures you can find and how to tell if it’s a friend or a predator, some legends around the world, etc.
All some interesting stuff, but it gets boring when you have to learn the bases of math, alchemy, and literature since all of them are matters you’ve learned in your previous life. (Alchemy is chemistry but less developed)
However, it also means you are known as a real head for your young age which pleases your parents a lot, mostly your dad.
Even Leonie gets jealous sometimes when you manage to help her with her homework despise she’s three years upper than you.
It doesn’t take long before the other students ask you for help. You quickly become a popular kid.
With a perfect family, a perfect school life and a lot of friends, you live 4 wonderful years with a perfect life.
But then comes the main problem … magic itself.
At nine year old, you start your first class of magic. Your teacher is a bald man with a mustache, and he carries a dummy at the center of the room.
“Alright! Everybody gathers toward the wall! And faster than that! We don’t have all day” he yells the same way a sergeant would at his soldiers.
It doesn’t take long before you obey. Once everyone is where the teacher asked you to be, he stats his lesson.
“I'm Mr. Pot. And this is Dummy. Dummy wants to eat you! But lucky you, Dummy hates magic. More lucky you, Dummy is scared of fire, he fears the thunder, and he hates cold weathers. That’s why if you want to escape Dummy, your best option is to use one of the three easy magics on him. Who want to start?”
Some children rise their hands, but you don’t. Mr. Pot is surprised by that.
“Alright Jimmy! You go first!”
The kid named Jimmy approaches the dummy, rises his hand, and a weak lightning bolt strikes the dummy right in the nose. The teacher is pleased and sends him back to the wall.
Some other children pass, summoning fire, ice or electricity. but each kid trying to cast a spell is a reminder that your turn is comming soon.
You know you won’t escape the exercise and if you can’t use magic properly, you will quickly become the shame of the entire school. So you decide to try the test.
Now you’re facing Dummy and you try to cast a fire ball … but nothing is coming.
“Are you playing with the suspense? Personally, I’m not a big fan of it. So if you could cast your spell, it would be great!” mumbles the teacher annoyed.
You start to feel pressured with the laughs of the other kids.
“I … I don’t know how to cast the spell.” You hesitate to answer.
The teacher sigh … but he comes at you.
“You know the other teachers won’t believe me when I’ll say I had to teach you something, don't you?” he answers to you with a smile that makes you blush a little “Don’t worry girl! You’re here to learn. And I’m paid for it, so ... I should be thankful, you know!”
The whole class starts to laugh and you can feel a little more relaxed. What did scared you so much? you still a kid.
Mr. Pot continues his explanation.
“To cast the spell, you need to feel the mana through your body first. Then, you move the mana related to one element toward your hand. After that, you can cast a spell. But maybe you just need an idea of what fire, cold and electricity mana feel like.”
As he pushes his hand on your back, you feel the energy of 3 waves, but it isn’t pleasant at all. you can feel a wave of heat like your back was being cooked, then a wave of cold like if you bear skin was on ice and finally a wave of electric energy stinking through all your body.
Your teatcher noticed your reaction.
“It seems someone is quite sensitive to mana. I'm sorry it surprised you. Why don’t you try to move that feeling in your arm an cast a spell on Dummy?”
It’s your time to shine, you still decide to go with a fireball. It doesn’t need to be impressive, you just have to touch Dummy.
You feel the heat in your body. the energy concentrates in your arm, you could almost think it’s in a furnace right now.
And then you cast the spell and a flame thrower attacks Dummy. It is a powerful attack but …
