Chapter #3

Apt 503: A family of 5

    by: Duckymucky Author IconMail Icon
You headed to Apartment No. 503, it was a family of five's apartment. The family consisted of Dad, 42 years old, Mom, 39 years old, Oldest Son, 13 years old, Youngest Son, 10 years old, and their only daughter, 7 years old. They were not home, so it was a great opportunity for you to loot their home.

You enter their apartment through the gap behind the fridge and begin your journey. First, you went to the kitchen and found some crackers, chips, and a can of soda. You couldn't believe your luck, you hadn't had a soda in years. You sat down at the kitchen table and savored the sugary taste. You then went to the pantry, finding a few cans of soup and some granola bars. Perfect, this would sustain you for a few days at least.

Next, you headed to the bathroom. You rifled through the cabinets, looking for the toothpaste you desperately needed. You found a tube, nearly empty, but enough to get you by for a little while. You also found a half-used bottle of shampoo, and you couldn't help but let out a little cheer. This was a small victory, but it felt like a big one to you.

As you made your way to the door, ready to leave and continue your errands, you heard a noise. It sounded like someone was coming up the stairs. You quickly hid underneath the sink, at the back. Wondering who is coming back at this time, someone might have forgotten something you figured.
Your heart was pounding in your chest as the footsteps grew louder and closer. You were sure that whoever it was would hear your heavy breathing and discover your hiding place, but you didn't dare move a muscle.

Seconds turned into minutes as you waited there, holding your breath and listening carefully to the muffled sounds of footsteps and the rustling of clothing. Finally, the footsteps reached the landing and stopped. You could hear someone fumbling with keys as they tried to unlock the door to apartment 503.
Cautiously, you peeked out from your hiding spot and saw a man in his late thirties or early forties, carrying a large briefcase, enter the apartment. It was the Dad of the family, you wondered why he was home early. He looked around the room before heading straight to the fridge and taking out a carton of milk. He poured himself a glass and drank it in one gulp before heading towards the bathroom as you saw him from the door.

Panic set in as you realized you were still under the sink, but you managed to keep quiet as the man went about his business. You remained hidden as the father entered the bathroom. As he turned on the faucet, you heard him let out a loud groan. You couldn't see what was happening, but you could hear the sound of water splashing onto the floor. You could tell he was frustrated by the way he slammed his hand against the sink.

You stayed put, not daring to move, until you heard the man leave the bathroom and head to the living room. You waited for a few more minutes before finally emerging from your hiding spot. You cautiously made your way to the gap behind the fridge with your bag of loot, making sure not to leave any evidence of your presence behind.

As you walked along the walls of the apartment, you couldn't help but wonder what had happened to the father. You knew he had been frustrated when he entered the bathroom, but you couldn't tell what had caused it. You made a mental note to try to find out later, but for now, you had more pressing matters to attend to.
