Chapter #5

Phone a friend

    by: Morphology Author IconMail Icon
Quickly making his way downstairs to give him an ample amount of time to send an emergency text to Jenn. With his much smaller legs and body, quickly going down the stairs was certainly hard to do since he didn't want to rush down the steps and accidentally slip and fall. Finally making it down the steps, Josh tried to unlock the phone with his thumbprint, but found that it wouldn't unlock. 'I guess that would make sense because she's living my life right now. So it's technically her phone.' Seeing that this wasn't going to work, Josh put in his pass code and he could feel his heart skipping when the home screen appeared. Quickly going down to the messaging app, Josh was certainly thankful that he and Jenn were almost constantly communicating with each other. Not knowing how long he was going to be free to use the phone, Josh quickly typed a message to Jenn.

HELP!! Lilly found the remote and swapped our lives. I need you to come rescue me before something bad happens.

After he hit the send button, he heard his Mom coming down the stairs and by the footfalls, Josh judged that she wasn't in a good mood. Quickly stashing the remote between his legs and using the skirt that he was wearing to help hide it from view. It was just in time too since Kim soon came around the corner when Josh put his leg over the phone to help muffle the phone if Jenn replies back. He was thankful that he normally kept his phone on vibrate so that it wouldn't interrupt any of his classes. "Young lady." Kim started, but took a deep breath to help calm her nerves a little. "Your Dad entrusted me to help you get your homework caught up before you go back to school after the break. But I take my eyes off of you for a minute and I find you fighting with Josh."

Being on the end of a classic Mom talk, Josh knew better than to say or do anything while she was talking. Instead he just nodded his head and looked at the Math homework that Lilly had seemed to be needing to do. "Okay." Josh simply replied as she finished her usual tirade about how she was disappointed in what Lilly had done and let the homework pile up. Hoping to see if she would give him some leeway, Josh looked over at her and did his best apology look. "If I finish, can I go play with Josh some more? I promise that I won't yell." He asked with a sweet voice that would make Courtney jealous.

Thinking that she had Lilly in a corner, Kim just smiled. "Sure sweetie, if you get all 6 pages done, I will let you go play." She couldn't help but chuckle at how Josh's face seemed to glow at the prospect of getting off easily. "But you only have until your Dad comes to come and get you in about an hour or so." She glanced over at the clock on the stove display to verify that she was correct.

Looking over the pages that Lilly had to do and couldn't help but smile. 'Fractions, multiplication, and something that looks like insert the missing number to complete the equation.' Even though math had never been his forte, this was a simple walk in the park for him. In a matter of minutes, Josh was able to complete the 6 remaining pages and decided to look over his work one more time to make sure that he didn't make any mistakes. As he was doing so, he noticed that he still had to put the name on it. Making sure to put Lilly's name on it, Josh noticed that it seemed to be more flowery. 'Do I have her penmanship too?' He wondered, but pushed it aside hoping that Jenn would soon be able to get back with him to make things right. "I'm done." He announced as he started to get up, but was cut off by Kim.

"I don't think so missy." She replied as she started to reach over for the papers. Knowing that it was going to be correct, Josh handed the over with a smile. As she was looking them over, Josh subconsciously started to kick his legs back and forth, something that he hadn't been able to do for over a decade, while humming a tune that he heard recently. It only took a matter of minutes for Kim to check the answers and find them to be correct. Slowly she put the worksheets down and looked at Josh.

"Can I got play now?" Josh asked with a mischievous grin on his face. Kim couldn't help but nod her head in surprise. As he was about to get up, he felt an odd vibration coming from the phone.

Looking around the room to figure out what was causing the sound, she looked at Josh. "Is that a phone?"
