Josh wasn't surprised to see that he was back in the cafe once again, however, he was surprised to feel the idol not in his hand. "Oh, thanks for the tip you two, I really appreciate it. Just have a seat and I will bring it right out to you when its ready." Zoe said with a smile. She always liked it when they came in, mostly because they were great tippers and cleaned up after themselves when they got done. As they walked away, Zoe cleared her throat. "Can I talk to you about something?"
Jenn turned to see him stopping and looked back over at Zoe. "I will find us a seat." She said with a wink and turned to find themselves a table to sit.
Feeling his heart starting to beat a little faster, Josh had several thoughts going through his head. 'Does she know about what happened?' 'What will she want to talk about?' Stepping back up to the counter, Josh looked over to Zoe, who had a suspicious look on her face. "Uh, whats up Zoe?"
Looking at him, Zoe closed her heavily made up dark eyes and started to smell the air around him. "Do you smell a campfire?" She asked smelling the air around him. Josh started to sweat after hearing this causing Zoe to explain herself. "I'm sorry, its just when I'm on my period my sense of smell is stronger. When I was younger, I would be able to smell what my friends ate for lunch." Josh's apprehensive look seemed to say it all. "Look." She replied as she got a little closer and smelled the air around him causing her nose ring to move slightly. "I may smoke and it has affected my sense of smell, but I know what a campfire smells like and you didn't have that smell when you walked up earlier." She looked down at his hand and noticed that the strange idol was missing and that his finger seemed to have been recently cut too.
Bringing his shirt up to his nose, Josh gave it a smell to see if he could notice anything. The faint smell of campfire still lingered and he knew that she was going to ask questions. Looking around to make sure that there wasn't any other people around, Josh leaned closer towards Zoe The smell of coffee and baked goods still lingered around her causing Josh's stomach to grumble a little. "What if I told you that I can swap something between us, but I would need your permission to do so?" Looking over at Zoe, Josh didn't know what to think, her face seemed to be etched with stone and was unwilling to show any emotion. He continued to tell her about getting transported into a dark cave, the old man with the various parts, the campfire that seemed to flicker with the heartbeat of the old man, and finally about the Goddess made of smoke matching the idol giving him a gift.
After several seconds, Zoe blinked and looked back down at his hand. The cut seemed to have stopped bleeding, but still left a noticeable mark. "So what you're telling me is that you can switch things between people?" She asked causing Josh to nod his head. "And you can only do it if you get their permission?" She continued. Standing back or a moment to seemingly take in all the information. "So how about you prove it and swap our hair." She asked bringing her hand up to her hair to fluff it slightly. "If you can do that then I will believe you."
Looking at her hair, Josh felt something deep down inside of him want to show her the power. Deciding having her hair wouldn't be too bad, he nodded his head. "What the?!?" Both he and Zoe exclaimed out loud as bright light enveloped the both of them. Suddenly Josh's head felt a little heavier and something seemed to be tickling the back of his neck. Still unable to see properly, he brought his hands up to his head to feel what was going on and felt much longer hair than he was used to. Rubbing his eyes in an attempt to help alleviate the blindness from the light. Just as he was able to see once more, Josh glanced over at Zoe but noticed that her hair was cut much shorter and resembled his from just moments earlier. "Oh My..."
"God" Zoe finished causing Josh to nod his head. Her normally calm demeanor gave way to a smiling face as she quickly came around the corner to get a better look at her hair on his head. "It looks just like mine." She giggled while getting a closer look at his bangs. "Its separated down the middle too."
Having her in his space was causing Josh to feel a little anxious and wanted to get away. But he wanted to get his hair back before he left. "Zoe, stop messing with his hair and get back to work." A man in his late 30s demanded after he came through the kitchen door to deliver some food. Being the manager, Tim looked overworked and underpaid for what he did. His hair, which was messily tied back into a man bun, had a reddish tint to it with hints of grey intermingled within it. "I've got a call in order for a law firm and their on their way to come pick it up in 45 minutes. So I'm going to need all hands on deck." He turned back to Josh and didn't even bat an eye at his hair. "Sorry sir, but if you would have a seat, we will bring your order right out to you."
"Can I ask Zoe something first?" He asked, but was soon cut off by Tim.
"No can do. Orders come first and if you want to talk to her it will need to be when we're not busy." He instructed causing Zoe to keep her head down as she went to the back to finish getting the order ready.
"I understand." Josh replied as he turned to go back to Jenn. As he passed a mirror, he couldn't help but look at his ridiculous hair on his head and brushed it out of his face. 'I need to talk to Zoe before we go home.' He thought to himself as he sat across from Jenn. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
