It was probably nothing, it had to be nothing. So Carla shook her head one last time and got back to work. Work that was thankfully uneventful, for now at least. She did a round of topping off drinks and took orders. The guy who rode in on a motorcycle, Tony, didn’t seem nearly as scary after talking to him for a minute. Turns out he’d recently saved up enough money (or something like that) to by a bike and leave his office job and start riding.
And the couple, Rey and Walter, decided to order a meal after all now that they were officially not making it to their reservation. Apparently they were on a big road trip to celebrate their engagement until their car started breaking down, throwing their whole itinerary off. Carla felt for them so she went to Esther with an idea. She was called a bleeding heart for it but got their meal partially comped all the same.
After that it was same old same old, cleaning and refilling and running back and forth. All the while the three truckers at the counter, Gene, Marsha and Theo talked amongst themselves, catching up and trading stories. Then Theo hopped off his stool with a “Be right back, gotta hit the john” and sauntered towards the bathroom.
His colleagues nodded politely but once out of earshot Marie leaned over to ask Gene “What’s he talking about?” But Gene just shrugged.
Meanwhile Officer Wrigley was just about to square away her bill when suddenly…
