This choice: A new hero, going through their origins. • Go Back...Chapter #2Rookies, the Whole Lot of Them by: Keroro04 Ah origin stories, the classic of the superhero world.
Let's face it, every superhero has to start somewhere, and it is usually at these lower levels that they get to learn what they can do. Some do it for genuine care for others, others want the attention that comes with saving lives. Some still don't even know why they want to be a hero, but still go out anyways to save lives! Anyhow, what they don't know is that big things on the horizon doesn't necessarily mean JUST becoming big in the superhero world...
Argonaut
Civilian Name: Medea Aeetes II
Age: 19 (Technically over 2000 years via stasis)
Height/Weight: 5'2"/110 lbs.
Origin: Sorceress, Ties to Ancient Greece
The forgotten daughter of the very Medea that was betrayed by Jason, the hero known as Argonaut was only saved via the acts of the goddess Athena, who sealed her in a time stasis casket to be opened "when the stars aligned". By the modern day, those stars did indeed align, and Medea was adopted by a wealthy family who wanted to have a kid, but were unable to procreate.
Eventually, on her 18th birthday Medea discovered her true potential when she accidentally unsealed a hellhound trapped beneath her school. Trying to protect herself, she discovered that she had an immense pool of magic which let her control her own bodily form to transform into any natural element or creature. Using it, she was able to create a pool of ice to freeze the hellhound, so that it could eventually be dragged way by the professional hero known as The Owl.
After coming to terms with what she could do, Medea had a genuine desire to help others... but her parents only saw her as a means to attain popularity. They put her under a year's training while also spending a fortune getting the legendary Golden Fleece, just so that by the time she debuted she'd be able to take the spotlight immediately. Well now she's ready to debut, but all she wants to do is just genuinely help others, without any sponsorships or cash grabs.
Hawk
Civilian Name: Roger Calhoun
Age: 21
Height/Weight: 6'0"/178 Lbs.
Origin: Bird-based Metahuman
Roger Calhoun was born Maria Calhoun, a metahuman daughter of the hero known as The Owl. With a mother who was a member of the Power Lounge and thus one of the Earth's greatest heroes, they had a rather large set of boots to fill, especially since they inherited their mom's Metahuman powers: namely a set of large bird-like wings as well as powerful X-Ray vision that could let them see through anything.
One thing that he didn't define with however was the gender he was born with. While born as a woman, Roger identified more with being a man but tried hiding that belief from his mom as long as he could. As it turned out, she knew almost immediately but unlike what he feared she was actually very much okay with whatever her son identified with.
That's not to say that his life was strained when he began gender reassignment surgery. Due to the head of the Lounge being the transphobic General Ohio, he could no longer be the Owl's sidekick against crime, and was thus booted out of the League. As such, he quickly took up a new name as the Hawk, and joined the ranks of other newly rising rookie heroes in order to prove himself. At the very least, his mom still supports him in secret.
Battle-Rider Donut
Civilian Name: Fugaki Yumi
Age: 20
Height/Weight: 5'8"/230 lbs.
Origin: Sentai Chef
Born and raised in Hokkaido, Japan, Yumi was a average girl growing up. With her parents running a bakery and with everything being close-knit she was somewhat sheltered growing up with a understanding that everyone deserved to have their fair share of fill. She was set to inherit the bakery when she was of age, something which she was excited to do considering her incredible sense of taste.
Fate had different plans for Yumi however. Kidnapped by scientists of the organization WHISK at the age of 16, she was genetically modified in an attempt to create a donut-themed super soldier, one who'd be super obedient to their leader, the dreaded Whipped Maou. The experiments to alter her body worked perfectly, but unlike the rest of their creations Yumi had a much stronger will and escaped.
From her experiments, she was given an elastic body that could shape itself just like dough and a soft body that could really take advantage of it. Knowing such a powerset didn't exactly suit out for a magical girl motif, she donned an old Kamen Rider suit she stole from a auction, modified it to make it non-copyrightable and declared herself a new vigilante known as "Battle-Rider Donut"! Rather than wanting to save people, she simply just wants to punish criminals who caused her to be like this, making her not that different from the goons she fights... for now.
Lone Bullet
Civilian Name: Kimmy Accardi
Age: 29
Height/Weight: 5'3"/130 lbs.
Origin: Vigilante with a Midlife Crisis
Kimmy Accardi... is a very much ordinary woman trying to be extraordinary. An Italian immigrant to the States, she's used to serving as a office worker in S.H.O.T.G.U.N, a hero regulation force who's job it was to hold heroes accountable for property damage. Forced to do paperwork day and night, the stress of her life was one that got to her deeply, especially now that she had a husband and a pair of kids to care for.
Eventually, the pressure got to her. She saw herself working herself to the bone, while the superheroes she was supposed to regulate do very little and get great recognition. It wasn't fair! She had a midlife crisis, and decided to start taking boxing lessons so that she herself could go to the streets herself, and get just a little bit of a better understanding of what it was like to be a hero.
Now, Kimmy works at S.H.O.T.G.U.N during the day, hangs out with her family during the afternoon... and then hits the streets during the night as the powerless vigilante known as the Lone Bullet. With nothing but a shotgun and some boxing lessons, she wants recognition and fame from her actions above all else, and to be recognized for her work. All this work needs energy though, and because of her new "Second Job", she can only get it through fast food... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
