1) At the start of the game, Vivi is reluctant to leave the ruins of the theatre ship. Zidane, knowing he would be a big help, even if it was Steiner's idea, agrees to do anything he can to get the young Black Mage to join the party.
2) When they went through Conde Petie, Dagger had utterly refused to undergo the Ceremony with Zidane. Zidane had been devastated but had quickly chosen to do the Ceremony with Vivi lest he get stuck with Quine. It was only after the Ceremony took place that the Dwarf's marriage ritual worked to bond Zidane to Vivi as a couple. And unfortunately for the monkey-tailed thief, since the Dwarfs were more familiar with Vivi's kind, they placed the young Black Mage as the dominant partner in the relationship.
