Chapter #2

Into the Breach

    by: Unknown
One of the lesser guards began to open his mouth to speak, but then the lead guard inturrupted, "I'm sorry, girl, but no one gets in without proper identification."

"Well, that's too bad," Dauphin replied before turning around to mount Vrexx, her faelan. She raised her left hand towards the night sky and launched a fireball out of her hand, thus giving the signal. Then Vrexx carried her into the air as she watched the chainmail-clad huskarls emerge from the darkness from both sides of the gate.

The two forces engaged in combat, but the guards were easily slaughtered by Dauphin's army. One of the crossbowmen then shouted, "Okay! Bring out the rams!" Out of the woods, the bulky shapes of battering rams slowly advanced towards the gate.

The gate fell easily after being pulverized by the mighty siege weapons as the wall guards were killed by the crossbowmen. The huskarls and crossbowmen flooded into the city, the warriors in the rams emerged one by one as they unsheathed their blades and Dauphin flew over the city to survey the carnage.

"Are you sure about this?" asked Delpheus the Transmuter, her twin brother, as he emerged from the aethir to fly beside her with wings of magic.

"Of course," replied Dauphin. "After all, the evidence shows that this kingdom is the one responsible for all of the mysterious attacks on my homeland. But the diplomats of this nation still deny it. Remember our family, Del? Remember the blood, the soulless look in their eyes, the arrows stuck in their flesh? Now these heartless savages will pay for their crimes. After all these years, justice will finally be served."

"Uh-huh. And what if you're wrong?" Delpheus replied.

Dauphin didn't answer that, but just watched as the huskarls entered the houses of the vile people and butchered them in their homes, in their sleep and in the streets. Ah, she thought, sweet justice. The fiends deserved nothing less.
