As the girl held him, a shadow fell across Kevin's face.

"Come on Grace, we have to go," said a tall boy.

"But Eddie," whined Grace, "Look what I found."

"Gracie, you know Mom won't let you keep that," scolded Eddie, but his eyes softened at Grace's pleading eyes.

"Here, put him in my backpack," Eddie said with an exasparated sigh. Hurriedly, Grace jammed Kevin into the pack and he was carried out of the store.
