At his home village Alex met Drunk Drucilla at his house. At 12 his parents were killed by Black Plague, at 13 his older brother Maurice then 17 left him; for the next three years Drunk Drucilla became Alex's guardian as promised to Maurice and Alex was now 17 himself. Drunk Drucilla lay in a stupor- vomit laying on her ragged dress. Alex winced and picked up a rag to clean her. As he did so Maurice- his only brother- said, "Hello, Alex!" "Maurice!" shouted a shocked Alex.
