Chapter #3

Well Behaved Kids

    by: disneyfan Author IconMail Icon
Wendy never saw her children so well behaved at dinner before. Peter kept the kids entertained with a story while they ate and Wendy herself fell into his adventurous tale. When they had finished eating, all Peter did was ask for help cleaning up and both kids picked up their plates and took them to the sink.
Wendy watched as Brooke pulled over a chair and got up infront of the sink and began washing. She then handed each dish to Michael, who carefully dried them before handing them to Peter who put them away.
Seeing that thing were under control, Wendy went back to her office. It was remarkable how this young man made such a impact on their lives so quickly and she still didn't know much about him, such as his work experience.

"Mom," Wendy looked from her screen to see Brooke in her nightgown, ready for bed standing in the doorway, holding her hand was Michael who was also in his pajamas and clutching a tattered blue blanket.
"Peter told us to come and say 'good night'"
Mary always had trouble getting the kids to go to bed, yet here Peter had them going almost willingly.
"Good night, dears."
Wendy watched the kids turn and walk away. Michael seemed tired and shuffled along slightly behind his sister.
Peter is at the top of the stairs waiting for them.
"Tell us another story." Brooke asks.
"A Pirate story. " Michael adds.
"Tomorrow." Peter says as he ushers them into their rooms.
"You better leave Michael's light on." Brooke tells Peter.
"Why?"
"Michael's afraid of the dark."
Peter begins to tell Michael of the wonders found in the night sky.
When we take our journey into the darkness,
and learn the secrets of the night.
And understand the power and promise
of the magic of starlight.
When we believe in the spirit of adventure,
and cherish every journey we share.
The magic in the light of a star tonight,
We'll dream of anything, anywhere.
We can dream our dreams, forever.
Dream our dreams, together.
Open our eyes,
make a wish on a star in the sky.
We can dream our dreams, forever.
Dream our dreams, together.
We open our hearts,
and keep the dream alive.
(Words from Disneyland's night time parade)

Wendy shut down her computer and she thought she saw some movement in the shadows of the hallway.
"Peter is that you?" she called out.
"Yes, ma'am." He peered around the corner and even in the dim light his eyes sparkled like green emeralds.
"We need to talk." Wendy says.
Peter walks in and sits on the coach opposite the large window.
"For me to pay you I need to know your address and social security number. If you want I can deposit your check into your account, but I'll need to know your bank and account number as well."
"Do you always treat your home like your office?" he asks.
"I'm serious. If you want to get paid I need to know these things."
"I don't have them."
"What do you mean you don't have them?"
"I just got here so I don't have an address yet."
"I'm sorry. You can stay here till you find a place. Now I'll need your social security number so I can report you salary to the IRS."
"Never got one."
"Then how did you get paid at your previous jobs?" she asks.
Peter gets up and walks to the window as the moonlight falls across his face Wendy can see the freckles across his nose. For some reason in this light he seems younger than he did before.
"Never had any that paid before."
Wendy begins questioning Peter's abilities to care for he children."Then how can you have experience raising children?"
"You don't have to get paid for having fun."
"Life isn't always fun and games. Sometimes you have to grow up."
Peter turns back and Wendy wonders if it is her imagination or is ears slightly pointed. "But you have to have fun sometimes or life isn't worth living."
"Ok," Wendy goes to the door."It's late. Tomorrow I'll work on getting you a social security number and you can tell me more about what exactly is your experience.
