The Cat Out of The Bag

by: Jack Frost Author IconMail Icon
"Yah I know. I've got a lot on my mind today" You cautiously move your jaw around, hoping it still works, rub your ribs and lean back against the locker.
"Man what a jerk, you only bumped into him!" He sits down beside you, his chains jingling as they curl up on the floor around him. He leans up against the lockers beside you and cracks his neck. Jack is a punk. He's wearing old black jeans with obvious red stitching where he sewed up the many rips that appeared over the years. His shaggy hair, dyed orange to celebrate the fall, hangs a bit in front of his eyes. Jack reaches into the breast pocket of his red, plaid shirt and pulls out his zippo and proceeds to flick it on and snap it shut.
"Hey Jack, u wanna skip chem?"
Jack drops his lighter and slowly turns his head toward you. His face a vision of shock and bewilderment. "Did you just ask me if i want to skip? You never want to skip! Holy crap! I'm Finally getting through to that nerdy little brain of yours!" Jack ruffles your hair and breaks into a very odd celebration dance, people walk around his antics on they're way to class. He stops abruptly and jumps back down beside you.
"Wait a sec. Why do you want to skip today? Even when Bruno stole your pants that one time you didn't want to miss chem. You forget," he says, shaking a finger at you, "I'm sharper than I look."
"I'll tell you in a bit, let's just get onto the bike trails first." You stand up slowly and start walking towards the door to outside. Jack grabs his lighter and follows you.
As you walk onto the bike trails, a scenic path through the trees, you think to yourself how easy it was to skip just then. Not at all like the movies where a sadistic principal stalks you all over town.
"So what's wrong? Bruno finally driving you zany?"
"No it's not him"
"Girl problems?"
"Not more than usual."
"Weird life changing super powers?"
"Actually yah." You look at him with wonder at how he figured it out so fast.
"Right, but seriously whats up? You don't seem yourself today."
"Well i woke up today with superpowers."
"Oh! So you really are having problems with super powers." Jack rolls his eyes and starts laughing. "If You have powers, why didn't you use them to, oh i don't know, not get hit!"
"They kind of freaked me out! I don't want the school thinking I'm more of a freak than they already do!" You frantically explain to Jack who looks at you dumbly.
"Ok my friend is loopy. What to do? What to do?" Jack backs away in mock fear, "Listen," Jack starts, being serious again, "I'm actually trying to help you so lets get back to the topic of whats different about you and no more superpower jokes, ok?"
As he says this you concentrate, you hear his voice deepen dramatically, and he slows right down to almost a standstill. You snag his zippo from his pocket
"Ok. Oh hey, here's your lighter." You toss Jack his zippo. He catches it and gives you an odd look then lights up a mini cigar, puffing lightly to get it going, then replaces his lighter to his pocket.
You concentrate again and see a red leaf nearly stop mid-fall just to the right of Jack, very slowly fluttering through the air. You again dip your hands into his shirt pocket and grab the lighter.
"Catch." You toss him the lighter and he catches it out of reflex. Then his cigar drops from his mouth as a look of confusion crosses his face.
"How did you..." His voice trails off as he tries to make sense of things.
"Jack, no joke, somethings happening to me." You start.
"Wait. I don't believe this." Jack holds his lighter between thumb and forefinger right in front of his face, "Ok get it now."
You concentrate again and easily slip it from his grip, however this time you stay right in front of Jack instead of moving back to your spot.
"Holy crap man!"Jack falls flat on his butt and grabs the nearby cigar, taking a long drag and enhaling deeply. "You're freaking serious? Holy crap!" Jack jumps up and walks to a nearby bench and sits down.
"You allright man?" you ask.
"Yah this is just kinda confusing. So what is it you can actually do?"
You sit down beside him and put your head in your hands, "Well as far as i can tell i can slow down time."
"Wow man. This is nuts. Ok I have an idea!" Jack sits up straight with a brilliant look on his face.
"Oh no, what are you going to do now?" You ask even though you don't really want to know. Jack always has a crazy idea, usually it ends up with him in trouble and you making up an excuse. This time you suspected it would be a bit crazier than usual.
"That Bruno guy is always bugging you, right? Well now's your chance for a little revenge!" an evil grin flashes across jacks enthusiastic face as he pulls you up and through the path back to school.
As you approach the school you can see Bruno in the parking lot, leaning against his car, bragging about it to a group of giggling air-heads.
"You could scratch his car right in front of his eyes and he wouldn't even know it! Imagine his face! Oh wait, even better! Just walk up behind him and pants him, like he did you, and then scratch his car!"
"Your right! I could finally get payback for the beatings!"
"That's the spirit! Now go get that jerk!" Jack pats you on the back and sits down to watch the fun.
You begin to walk over when you see another car fly across the parking lot, the driver showing off its power to his buddies. A grade 10 runs into the path of the roaring beast, the driver cranks the wheel to miss the kid and flies right at the back of Bruno. Bruno turns around just in time to see a ton of metal and horsepower ready to pinch him between itself and his car.

You have the following choices:

1. Save Bruno! Have a Conscience!

2. Let Bruno get hit! He deserves it!
