Gomez’s grin stretched from ear to ear. It looked as though adventure had found him!
“Ha, ha! You couldn’t have better timing,” he said in mid-leap, avoiding a sweep of the knight’s sword. “I was just trying to think of a way to liven up my day!”
He dodged a second attack, and a third. And on the fourth of the knight’s heavy swings, Gomez brought up his sword to parry. The grin vanished from his face.
“What’s the matter, Gomez? Not so happy to be fighting me anymore?” The black knight laughed a hearty, confident laugh.
Gomez eyed his opponent in disbelief. That mysterious man with his dark, menacing armor, that underhanded, unannounced first attack.. It had all seemed so promising! How could such a fierce looking opponent turn out to be such an amateur with a sword? The stance, the the trust, the footwork... none of it could be sloppier!
Gomez tried to hide his disappointment. “No at all. I enjoy a good challenge,” he replied, half-heartedly trying to sound enthusiastic. He took on a defensive stance and parried for a few moments--it wouldn’t do to embarrass his guest by disarming the stranger too quickly--before executing a simple maneuver that sent the knight’s sword clanging to the ground.
“Ah, too bad,” Gomez consoled, shaking his head sympathetically. “Maybe you’ll have better luck in a second match. Best two out of three?”
The dark armored demon stood silent, unreadable for a moment. He then let out a deep, seething growl. “Gomez Addams, you may be able to best me with a sword, but I will have my revenge!” In a swift movement, the knight threw something to the ground and disappeared in a puff of smoke. He was gone.
