May's biological parents have long been divorced and separated, and May's mother had since remarried to a new husband. This new husband had a daughter from a previous marriage, her name was Elizabeth. Beth was 23 years old and in college and so May rarely seen her, but today she was at May's house to visit her father.
For some reason, Beth always seemed uncomfortable around May. The reason may have been because May stood an imposing 5'11", whereas the older Elizabeth was a mere 5'3". Sometimes the towering Asian girl would tease her by calling her names to ridicule her for her height. These comments really got on Beth's nerves, especially because she was 5 years older than May and she felt her younger stepsister should be treating her with more respect.
