Gilja (yes, she had best start referring herself as such now) noticed a boy about her age returning from what looked like a hunt. He carried a yew bow, along with belt buckles meant for survival in the wilderness. By the way he stared at her (why did he have to blush?), he sure didn't expect you to be here. More embarrassing was that Gilja also blushed, but more because somebody had found her after such a traumatic event. Had he seen her arrive via the portal? That would be terrible, and if so... protocol demanded that she would make sure he forgot he saw anything, but given her lack of armament and the fact she would have to take care of Drak, that seemed pretty ludicrous.
"Um, are you lost?" he wondered.
"Y-yes" replied Gilja, "I wandered off too far from the village." That was most definitely true, because Gilja was lost, as she had no idea where she was nor did she feel optimistic about having to live in the mountains by herself.
Thankfully, the young man gave her a sympathetic nod. "Lucky you bumped into me then, you follow me I'll get you back to Carvahall in a jiffy."
"By the way, my name's Eragon"
Gilja nearly flinched at the sound of that name. Wasn't he supposed to be that dragon rider? This Eragon sure didn't look like the type. Whatever. Best to just go with the flow.
"And you are?"
"G-gilja" she responded. That sounded natural enough. If anything, it just sounded as though she was shy.
It was just then his eye caught the pretty green stone she was carrying.
"If you don't mind me asking, where did you find that?" he inquired. It was a reasonable question, yet one whose answer held staggering implication.
"Why do you ask?" she said somewhat defensively.
He shrugged, "I'm just curious,"
"I discovered it while I was wandering, lost trying to get back" she improvised. It was a lame excuse, but Eragon didn't seem to want to inquire further into it.
"Interesting" Eragon responded, "I found a stone just like this while hunting, except that it's blue. Maybe stone's like these are common around here, except people haven't had a chance to really check."
If so then that would explain why Galbatorix's armies became decimated while exploring the region.
"Can I see?" she asked, unable to control your curiosity. He opened his bag and revealed the shiny blue stone. You felt your hand over it, knowing it held a dragon inside, but not daring to reveal it. This was something Eragon would have to discover on his own.
"It appeared out of nowhere, but what is the use of contemplating good fortune?"
Gilja nodded with interest, "What do you intend on doing with it?" she wondered.
"Sell it of course, it'll get me money to buy us food for the winter" he replied, in what was the most logical course of action for any peasant farmer.
"I intend to keep my pretty stone" said Gilja while cradling Drak's egg, "Something as beautiful as his is too good to sell"
Eragon took a long look at the green shell that encased Drak, "Well, do what you want. I'll show you the way out of the Spine, and if you're interested why not spend the night at my cabin? I'm sure my uncle Garrow won't mind...too much."
Gilja thoughout about his offer. For one, staying at his house could significantly alter what had occurred during 'Eragon'. Then again, the prospect of freezing to death wasn't appealing either.
