This choice: Let’s go for supper, I think we deserve it • Go Back...Chapter #4Pete helps Ted pig out! by: fat_hiker
The three of you finish unloading the truck and get the furniture in all the right rooms, and even get a few boxes unpacked. Ted does sweat, you notice, just as he said - not that a wet t-shirt is an eyesore on his body, no, exactly the opposite. As the three of you are finishing up, and your dad says, “Let’s go for supper, I think we deserve it. Ted, do you know any good places around here? I think I remember a Chinese buffet on the way in from the highway.”
“Yes, there is, but I’ve never been there,” said Ted. “My parents don’t believe in buffets - we don’t eat out a lot,” he went on.
“Well, do you like Chinese, Ted?” your dad replies. “I know Pete does.”
“Sure!” replied Ted. “I’ll just go home and tell my mum that I’m having supper with you.”
“Tell her I insist on it as a thank-you,” your Dad replies.
Ted runs off to his house, and you note that even for that short distance he runs - no wonder he complains he’s too thin. Ah, well, you love buffets, and you hope Ted will appreciate the chance to eat while not under his parent’s watchful eye. Maybe you can do this regularly with Ted...
Your Dad, meanwhile, is backing the car off the dolly behind the truck that carried it from Chicago. The car looks pretty dirty, but starts right up. You hop into the front seat, feeling the car sag beneath you in its usual fashion, just as Ted returns. He says, “They said yes,” and he climbs in. The three of you zip off to “Golden Key Chinese Buffet”.
The buffet’s entrance is an impressive area carpeted in red and gold, filled with the heavenly smells of good Szechwan with a couple of benches to wait on and a very pert, very young waitress to greet you. When your dad asks for a table for three, “non-smoking”, she motions to another waiter to seat you. “Wow, he’s as big as me,” you say under your breath, as a fat Chinese guy, who looks maybe 20, comes forward. He smiles, and leads you to a table near the steam tables. He casually whips one chair away from a table for four, “to give you room,” then motions you to the side with only one chair, looks you straight in the eye, winks, and rubs his protruding tummy with his free hand. He then turns to your dad and Ted to ask them what they’d like to drink.
The three of you proceed to the buffet tables, where your dad starts with soup and a noodle salad, while you and Ted get straight down to business with the main dishes. Soon an array of delicious food is piled high on your plates, and you sit down to eat with relish.
Ted matches bite for bite through two platefuls, then sits back and says, “Boy, that was good, I wish I could eat more. And there’s dessert there - we never have dessert at home.” Your Dad has gone back to the steam tables for a bit more, so you lean forward to speak quietly to Ted.
“If you want to eat a bit more, then you have to drink a bit of the Chinese tea - it helps digestion - and rub your gut a bit,” you say. ‘Not that Ted has any gut,’ you think, ‘ but that might change.’ Ted looks a bit doubtful, but does as you suggest. “In a circular motion,” you add, and his face lights up as he massages his full tummy.
“Wow, it feels like there’s lots of space in there now,” he says with a grin. “ Where’d you learn that trick?”
“From my grandpa,” you reply. “He liked to eat too, but he was a skinny guy like you.”
“Well, if I eat like this a few times, I won’t be so skinny,” replied Ted, heading back to the steam tables. “I feel like I could eat...
