What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow*I am reviewing your Dear Me letter as one of the judges for "Dear Me: Official WDC ContestOpen in new Window..

Thanks for entering!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I thought about reviewing and the achievement that you seek, which focuses on the writers and not the one doing the reviewing. You put in the work to see what works for everyone and learn from that. I think that is a very positive and forward thinking way to go. You stress that sticking to it is key and I can't argue with that. Doing the work and learning from it takes you to a place where you can't go far wrong.

We all have days on here where someone said "Great job!" and we were cheered and decided to write on. Those of us who have stayed here a while have been visited by some serious positive reinforcement now and then.

I also think that rubbish you reference in reviewing may be in the eye of the beholder, but it's interesting to think about how different people view other people's responses to their work. I have seen people who think every review directed elsewhere should be tough and acerbic, whilst the same individual thinks that everything they write is golden. So, it's good to keep an open mind, especially as time goes on.

*Cool**Idea*

My criteria for judging Dear Me letters is about what I find memorable and interesting. It may not agree with anyone else's judgment. I also enjoy a sense of humor or something that touches me personally.

That is to give you an idea of where I'm coming from in the whole judging realm.

No expert on keeping my own New Year's Resolutions, I didn't even try to think of any this year. So, I'm also looking to be inspired with my own plans for the year.

I admire you for all the thought and effort you put into this.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked this passage:

"Approach each writer with eyes open, able to see the potential in everyone you review, their strengths and weaknesses, their pride and their pettiness, how they handle criticism and how they handle praise."

That is so interesting and it begs the question whether the review should be tailored to something about the person more than the work. Or maybe it should be balanced.

P.S. My reviews are not meant to be harsh edits or critiques. They are my reactions to what I have read and involve sharing my thoughts and feelings. That is how I approach most of the reviews I write now. We are asked to pick our favorites and that is what I try to do.
