Letter from the editor

We ask about the first time we did something, or we reminisce about that first time. We often don't bring up the last times for other things. We, as people, want to be open to new things but we don't talk about closing the door on others and both of those are required actions.

I have about a week and a half left to live in Iowa. I'm moving. I have had last classes, good-bye lunches, and I may have cried over losing the receptionist in my therapist's office. There have been a hundred things I've done here for the first time, and now some of the ones I've done for the last time I didn't realize happened before the pandemic.

I'm moving before the good-bye party that was scheduled for me, but I'm coming back for it, since we'll only be a few hours away. But that's such a struggle for all of us - leaving behind friends and community.

So on your adventure tales - we often get swept up in the mystery and magic of new places, but we don't always simply yearn for home and hearth. Let your character miss things, let them try to say good-bye, and allow that moment of just wishing things could be simple and easy.

For now, I'm wishing for a teleporter to see my besties when I could, because they're scattered everywhere. Anyone working on that right now?

This is a great NL. Learning to adjust your setting, or sometimes the story to fit the setting is what makes a writer.

I agree with you, can even be a poem.
