With the Writing.Com 21st birthday celebrations slowing down after the first week, but still in full swing, it's the perfect time to pick up reviewing and begin to look at all those wonderful stories and poems that were created in the rush of activity, fun and inspiration that occurs in the first week of September every year.
But why should you review? You're here to write, right? You're not here to read.
That's where you're wrong. Almost every single author you've ever heard of started life as an avid reader. After all, where did that initial spark come from?
Reviewing is the natural next step. And reviewing can benefit you in dozens of different ways. From a writing point of view, reading and reviewing broadly allows you to gain a wide perspective on topics. If you're reviewing critically, throwing an in-depth eye over other's work enables you to begin to do that for your own. If you strike up a conversation with the writer you've reviewed, you may even get a friend or writing partner out of it, someone to bounce future ideas off. For me, my favourite part of reading and reviewing is the things I learn. Reading a story in a different tense helps me gain an understanding of how to write in that tense. Reading a poem in a complicated form allows me to learn and appreciate that form. I could list endless ways I find reviewing amazing. I only wish I had more time for it!
On Writing.Com, reviewing is rewarding for all of the reasons above and more! There are dozens of ways to also earn rewards on top of the knowledge and growth you get from reviewing.
Writing.Com has "The Review Mixer" , which gives you a random amount of GPs for each review AND sends an equivalent amount to the person you reviewed as if they were from you. You're both getting rewarded!
On top of that, there's "Daily Review Rewards" , which rewards you for the number of reviews given in a day. The more qualifying reviews you give, the more GPs you'll get!
And the final Writing.Com incentive I'll mention is "Good Deeds Get CASH!" . Good Deeds Get Cash! rewards quality reviews. If you review an eligible item and tick that little box that says "Submit to Good Deeds Get Cash!", your review will go into a draw. If your review is one of the ten drawn, it will be judged against the other reviews and you'll be in with a chance to win!
That's some of the ways Writing.Com itself tries to inspire you to review, but that's not all! There's a wide variety of groups and activities run by dedicated Writing.Com members.
Groups such as "WdC SuperPower Reviewers Group" , "The WDC Angel Army" and "SIMPLY POSITIVE GROUP" reward reviews in a variety of ways, often via the "Public Review Rewards" for a few GPs and often additional rewards when you reach a certain milestone.
Or there's forums such as "Anniversary Reviews" , "Newbie Welcome Wagon" and "Earn Your Badge! - Closed" which reward you for reviewing certain categories, such as newbies (new members to Writing.Com).
With so many reasons to review, plenty of ways to be rewarded and so much to learn, what's stopping you? Get out there and start review!
Disclaimer: Please remember that your reviews should be genuine reviews after reading the item. Writing.Com and the member-run activities reserve the right to exclude any member for any reason at their discretion. So, don't do that. You miss out of the learning, meeting friends and glorious poems and stories if you skip all of that just for the GP rewards! You can read more about reviewing at Guidelines To Great Reviewing from Writing.Com 101 .
