Imperfection

To err is human; to forgive, divine ~ Alexander Pope

I have a lifelong problem: I'm a perfectionist, but I'm also human. *Pthb* (I also have ADHD, but that's an entirely different problem related to my perfectionism)

My point is, no one is perfect, and it's a good idea to remember that when dealing with yourself and others. We all make mistakes from time to time. We might miss a message, delay in responding, forget a deadline, or not follow through on a promise. There is an entire array of mistakes we can make and they will happen to all of us from time to time.

The best you can do is try to learn from your mistakes and try to make it right when you can.

If you're hosting a contest and you're running late on judging entries, that's fine! It can be a good idea to post a message in your forum (or send a message to participants) explaining that you're running behind. Communication is pretty much always a good idea.

If you're promised to participate in a contest or activity and something came up preventing you from following through, that happens sometimes. Explain and apologize. See if there is something you can do to substitute an action (like donating gift points or entering in the future). You can't go back in time and change what has happened; you can only try to do better in the future.

I'm working on being more forgiving with myself when I mess up (particularly the "small" things) and sometimes imagining someone else doing the transgression can help me to see it's not the end of the world. (I tend to be much more forgiving with other people than I am with myself) All I can do is try to be better.

That's not to say you should let people take advantage of you or that you should do it to others, obviously! But maybe try to be more forgiving when someone makes an honest mistake and give them a second chance.

Take care, and as always, keep on writing! *Quill*
