Letter from the editor

How do you honor the dead? Many people want to remember and honor their departed family and friends. Some of us do it by placing flowers on their graves. Other people donate to their loved ones' favorite charity or religious organization in the name of the departed. As long as we remember them in a respectful manner, it does not matter how we remember and honor them.

Do you have a special day in the year to remember the dead? Sometimes we remember them on their birthdays, the day they died, when their bodies were buried, or on some other day that was significant to both. You can remember and celebrate their lives the departed ever year everyday of the year if you want.

My mother was born in March of 1921, her soul departed this life in November of 2012. I have set aside two days each year to honor her. On her birthday and the day she died, I say a prayer for the advancement of her soul in the spiritual world. When the opportunity presents itself, I write a poem or story about her.

Do you have a special day to honor the departed? Do you have a special way to honor them? Let me know.

Ask & Answer

Nobody’s Home Author Icon writes: Amazing how you managed to not mention the the queer community's relationship with the rainbow colors and the rainbow flag. Yet you say the symbolism of the rainbow crosses both cultural and religious boundaries..."the unity of all races." Hmm. Does it really, though?

Nobody’s Home Author IconMail Icon, I apologize for not mentioning the queer community. The rainbow is a symbol of unity and covers the entire human race, no matter what their color, gender, or gender preference (I hope that is the proper phrase.) are.
