Here's Your Chance
In any particular month, there are between 30 and 50 writing contests open and accepting entries on Writing.Com.
Don't believe me? Why not? Have I ever told you a fib before? I have? OH. (OOPS.) Well, I'm not fibbing about this. Check out (shameless plug alert!) "Contest Clues" . At the beginning of every month, I go through my lists of open and closed contests and see if they will be open in the upcoming month. I also monitor "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" for new postings and I continuously comb the newsfeed for announcements of opening contests. I also monitor the status of writing activities and writing challenges.
Before we go much further, let me clarify the difference (as I see it) between a contest, activity, and challenge.
Contest: entries are judged against each other. Awards are given based on that judging.
Activities: Entries are not judged. Any rewards given are for entries that meet a set of requirements.
Challenge: Similar to an activity (no judging of entries), but there are multiple entries over time.
Is that clear as mud?
Why am I telling you all this? And why am I asking a bunch of semi-rhetorical questions? I have an agenda, people. All will be clear in a bit.
Our selection of WdC contests is awesome. There is so much variety that it can be a difficult task to come up with something new and different if you are inclined to develop a new contest. Don't let that stop you if that's what you want to do, though! Here is something to consider. We need more writing activities and challenges since we have far fewer of them.
I have also heard people around the site mentioning that they would like to see more writing activities. I have an activity, "Merit Badge Magic" , that runs monthly and I wanted to open a second one that is completely different from my original. My muse, however, had other ideas. (She always does.) If you have read any of my past newsletters, you'll know that my muse is a calcitrant piece of work. What she had in mind was to start a new writing challenge, rather than an activity.
She won the disagreement, as she often does.
I am a little disappointed because I agree with other members that we really need more writing activities. Am I pleased with my new challenge? Yes, I am. We still need more activities, so, my friends, it may be up to you to be my Plan B. We need some folks to step up and get the job done. Can you think of a fun and appealing theme for an activity that will bring all the writers to the backyard?
The place to start is that big green "plus sign" on the left-hand side of your screen. Open up that new message forum and start creating!
I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with, not to mention having a new place to be inspired to write.

From my Contest & Activities Newsletter "The Interview of the Century"
StephBee
Great newsletter! I loved the interview with Jeff and getting his thoughts about the contests. Keep up the good work!
Beholden
Congrats indeed on the interview of the century - you weren't kidding when you named this NL that. Much of the info contained I had figured over the years but it's nice to have it confirmed. The Official contests are really the crown jewels of WDC and Jeff does a remarkable job running it, while the judges are excellent. Thanks to all concerned.
Newsfeed Question from the same newsletter: Have you ever entered the official WdC contests?
Cubby
I've entered all of them (not every single month, of course!) I work hard on these entries because if I can place in the top three, those gift points help me buy another year of Premium Membership
Amethyst Angel 🍁🙏
Sure I do. Every single one since I joined except for the Dear Me. Those GP prizes get my mouth watering I wouldn't have to "work" so hard around here if I placed
