It's Here! It's Here!
The WDC birthday week starts September 1st, and it's going to be a blast!
Knowing this, and I'm sure you want to be prepared, check out the contest and activity listings to see what is already prepping to run. What did you do last year? See if the host is having fun again this year.
The birthday event link ("Writing.Com Party Central 2024!" ) will be shown in your left column at the top, click it and see all the events going on. Also, be sure to take a peek at the newsfeed, things will be announced there from Writing.Com Support 's Newsfeed. Be sure to favorite the Writing.Com Support page. There are new emoticons and trinkets listed there for the birthday event.
There is so much to do and see, be sure to plan your time. I always get busy scrolling around to see what is going on, that I squander some of the time I could spend writing entries. I listed a couple activities that are already listed in "Activities @ Writing.Com" , take a look at "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" too.
As an event host, be sure you're advertising and visible. Try to come up with a unique hook to interest people and make them want to click. If you haven't explored Bid Click, now is the time to do so.
Don't forget your fellow entrants in contests. Take the time to review them or at least send an encouraging word. And be sure to encourage the hosts of the contests and activities. It feels good to get feedback and compliments when you put a lot of effort into your activity.

August Site Contest
Character Prompt for August 2024: Write a story where a character quickly finds themselves in a situation where they're in over their head.
The idea of this activity is to organize the exchange of newly created merit badges during the Writing.Com birthday week that runs from September 1 through September 7 each year. Sign up by August 31.
Flash fiction is fun to read and a challenge to write. It must contain all the elements of a larger work of fiction, but in a much shorter space.
Are you up for it?
The WDC Masquerade is back starting September 1. This is a fun yearly activity where you can play the part of your favorite character and solve a mystery for the chance to win prizes. Check it out!

Last month's question: How do you use dropnotes?
🌕 HuntersMoon : 30 second rule. Wipe them off and eat them anyway...
Write_Mikey_Write! : I normally use them at the end of an item for prompt info, form info in the case of poetry, and other info that I believe may be applicable or of interest.
TheBusmanPoet : I don't know, I keep dropping them.
Ned : I never do. It's all I can do to remember punctuation.
bobconstable: Simple. I just forget to close the loose-leaf notebook and my notes drop all over the floor, easy as pie!
Beholden : Under duress. I'd rather leave my notes out where people can see them, rather than rely on them knowing to click on the little arrow to read 'em.
Mouse says gobble gobble : I'm trying to learn all the writing resources and tools but it is a slow process for me.
HollisFrances : Well, I had to search the internet to learn what is a drop note. Now that my brain has accumulated more knowledge, I can write that, I neither confirm nor deny my use of the drop notes app.
GeminiGem🐾 : First, I love the title of your newsletter
I do use drop notes. A lot. It does streamline the look and organization of a forum. If I think people won't know to click on the link, I will prompt them with a "Click Here!"
THANKFUL SONALI Library Class! : 1. To explain words (like Hindi words) that my characters might use that might need explanation 2. For the prompt / form as in "I'm Beautiful!" [13+]
StephBee : I used Dropnotes on the "Steph Bee's Honey Pit " [E] at the Bee Hive. In the Dropnote, I usually explain the current Challenge which is visit another activity and report back with your progress. I think it's a great tool to add information to your item and it takes away the "chunkiness!"
NaNoNette :I use drop notes in all of my recent stories to post the word count and give the contest or activity and any prompt if applicable.
I also use drop notes in some of my activities to keep things all on one page without overwhelming the layout for visitors.
Thanks to everyone for your responses! Leger~ |
