Action/Adventure! It comes in many forms, not just books and movies. However people get their thrills, in this genre it's our job to bring more excitement into their lives through writing. In this newsletter, I say goodbye and hint of my own upcoming adventure. Enjoy

On the Road
You know that question, what would you do if you won the lottery? Your answer is supposed to reveal what job you would like best. My answer is simple enough: I'd buy an RV and perhaps write while traveling.
I never thought to actually do that, though. I mean, what real job is there? Should I work for a travel agency, be a starving author, or sell recreational vehicles?
"Whither goest thou, America, in thy shiny car in the night?" ~ Jack Kerouac
Recently, though, I've been given an opportunity to get paid to travel. The upside will be seeing around 300 different places per year. The downside will be having no particular home. Shall I take on the gypsy life for a while? Why not, since otherwise I can see being in the same place for years to come, and that's not an encouraging thought.
“We know what happens to people who stay in the middle of the road. They get run over.” ~ Ambrose Bierce
I've been living here more than eight years, which is the longest I've been in any one place. Back to the nomadic life for me, where I cannot put down so many roots that I get stuck in a rut. More importantly, I think there may be some actual mental stimulation in my future. We don't grow when our minds are not challenged.
“Travel can be one of the most rewarding forms of introspection.” ~ Laurence Durrell
I plan to keep a travel journal, of course. Not just detailing the places I've been and the things I've done, but also listing the places I want to go and the things I still want to do. I think it's important to have some goals, or else I might find that I've just been spinning my wheels when I had the chance to have some adventure.
“A road, a mile of kingdom, I am king
Of banks and stones and every blooming thing.” ~ Patrick Kavanagh (Irish poet)
The open road offers me freedom from the daily grind.
I wonder then, what else in wandering I may find.
