How Do I...?
In honor of new members I wanted to go back over some of the questions I see posted in the Help Forums.
At the top left of every page there is a menu called Site Navigation. This menu holds almost everything you’ll ever do on the site. Click the links and explore it extensively, especially the MY PLACES link. If you posted on a forum and now can’t find it, go to MY POSTS to find the message you posted, click it and it will take you to the forum. If you click on the white fist at the right top of the forum you will place it in your favorites so the next time you want it, you can find it.
What is an awardicon and how can I get and give one?
Awardicons Info
Awardicons are the ribbons and trophies seen on items and forums. They are given by other members to special pieces they enjoyed. You can’t buy one for yourself.
The recognition number next to my name is lower than it was yesterday, why is that?
If somebody you referred left the site, your "Referred Members" will go down 1 point.
Your number could have gone down if some items that you reviewed were removed from Writing.Com. You get 1 point per 100 reviews.
I want to post a story, but every time I go to Create an item in the Site
Tools section, I can't get past that first page. What am I doing wrong?
You need to click on" Static Item" after you go to Create. Static is at the top
of the list, so you can't miss it. That will open your page for your title, ratings, brief description, and your story. If you have your story on your computer, {it's always a good idea to write it there} you can copy and paste it into the body, the content area. Fill out all the boxes, go to the bottom of the page and SAVE it. It will show up in your portfolio with its own ID number.
Now, open the story and look at it, make sure the format didn't mess up. If there are no spaces between the paragraphs, click on EDIT and place some. Finish your editing and don't forget to SAVE it again. Open it up once more to see how it looks now. When it's ready find some review forums to submit it to. Use the bitem link. Look under Site Tools for WritingML Help to learn to use the ML used exclusively on the site. Colored fonts, emoticons, italics, bold, bitem links and much more are listed here.
I created a photo album, but every time I try and post pictures it says "invalid item" and I've tried everything.
In order to add photos to the album, you'll need to click the manage link for the item. When you look in your portfolio, it will be in a row with these commands.
View (nw) | Edit (fs/Q) | Delete | Reviews | Stats | Manage | Spell | RCS
AMU:
After you click on the manage link, click the Add photos link at the top. As long as the files aren't over 150 KB in space and do not exceed the pixel dimensions of 550x550, you should have a smooth upload of your pictures.
Is there any way to pay for upgraded membership with GPs?
Yes. Go to your 'My Gift Points' page and you will see all the different memberships offered, the same as in the store, and find the prices in GPs instead of in dollars. You will find 'My Gift Points' in the narrow golden line along the near top of the page. Along with My Account, My Favorites, and so on.
Review forums are not all the same.
This one is for writers with thicker skin who honestly want honest suggestions. Choose your forum carefully by reading the instructions on each header. Save yourself and your reviewer some grief.
These forums cover all types of genres, sizes and types of reviews. Most are gentler than the Request a Review (above) I suggest new writers use this list. Try many, you will soon have a favorite.
Help forums
While I don't like posting my own work in the letter, and haven't done it before, I feel these are important and helpful to new members. You won't know they're here unless someone tells you, so I'm doing that. These were written for you, and I hope they are helpful.

Submitted Comment: I've said it before, but not like this. On the front lines of life, we battered, bruised, and maimed Literary Soldiers sometmes lose focus. Self-doubt outflanks us. We become truly shell shocked and despair at what we feel are "our" own shortcomings. We then begin to despise ourselves and the tool that we weild that is so much mightier than the sword. In short, we become afraid of it. Yet there is always hope. Voices come calling from the edge of the battlefield. Voices that bind our wounds, ease our pain, and whisper words of encouragement. Voices like Cubby, Puditat, Laurencia, and dear Esprit. The voices that get us back on our feet and back into the battle.
Bless everyone of you here at Noticing Newbies!
Thank you, Gen; I'm honored.

Submitted Comment: Concerning Rhetorical Questions:
I usually put both a question mark and an excalmation mark: "Are you crazy?!" Is that right, wrong, or depends?
Breezy-E
That combination of punctuation marks is sometimes called an interrobang, and several have tried to promote it into use, with little result. It is considered bad form to use a question mark in combination with other marks, although that is often done in informal prose in an attempt to convey complex tones: He told you what!? The interrobang currently has no role in academic prose. You can use it in your personal writings but inquire about the house style if you're planning to submit a manuscript.

Submitted Comment: About capitalizing god, and he, (referring to god).
In religious teachings there are lesser gods, (as stated in the bible), when referring to the supreme God is when you capitalize.
Yes, God, the supreme being is always capitalized, the lesser god is not. His pronoun doesn't have to be unless you're writing for a religious readership. It is not a rule of grammar. Capitalizing will depend on the audience you’re writing to, and the Style Guide the publisher uses is the final decider. The important answer to remember is, either way is correct. It is not wrong to lowercase these pronouns.
We always appreciate the feedback, thanks!
