Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the U.S., and one thing I would be thankful for, if I were facing a wedding for myself or for a daughter, would be some ideas to have a romantic wedding without investing a fortune.
Also, when writing about weddings, having some romantic ideas to use helps create the glow of love.
As the guest editor for this issue of Romance/Love Newsletter, I hope to provide some tips for both.

Romantic Touches for Weddings
To add romance to a wedding, in real life or in a story, doesn’t require a fortune, an elaborate sit-down dinner for the reception, or bankruptcy for parents or couple. Many extra little touches can create romance during the planning, the ceremony, and/or the reception.
Some of the most lovely and romantic invitations have been personally created by one of the couple or by a friend. One bride used her artistic ability to design the invitations to her wedding. The wording and the images used were formed with pen and ink, then taken to a printer. Others have used special card stock, literally for cards, and printed an original design from their computers.
Many couples write their own vows, which they deliver during the ceremony. Wording one’s love and devotion in his or her own words adds that touch of romance to a wedding or in a story or poem.
The location of the wedding can definitely add to the romantic atmosphere. Couple have chosen rose gardens, beaches, historical mansions, or other unique locations, as well as churches or chapels, which add a romantic element to a wedding. The important thing is for the location to mean something to the couple.
During the ceremony, the music adds to the atmosphere. Nothing is more romantic than a groom who sings to his bride, or a bride who sings to her groom, or both singing to each other. At one wedding, the groom looked into his bride’s eyes and sang a song he had written especially for her. Not a dry eye could be found in the church. That groom was one of my sons, and someday the event will be in a book.
Adding certain attendants to the wedding party can be romantic. Having twins as ring bearer and flower girl, for example, can add that certain touch, or a flower girl traipsing down the aisle, her bare feet peeking from under her long skirt. Simple things can often add just the right touch of romance.
Some elimination of tacky relatively new “traditions” during the reception can add to the romance. One practice that has become more prevalent is for the bride to smash wedding cake in the face of the groom, or for the groom to smear cake over the bride’s face. Such an action is not romantic. Eliminating any action which would embarrass or humiliate another person should on the top of the list for romance in a wedding. Marriage has enough rough places without starting with one.
Some couples have special messages of love engraved inside wedding bands. Some give special wedding gifts to each other to add a touch of romance.
Romantic touches to weddings add lovely memories that can last a lifetime or can give that special touch to a story.
