What is a mystery? It's like a puzzle. A reader has to discover the secret or riddle in order to solve it and find out who the criminal or enemy is. *Smile*

Letter from the editor

*Star*What is your idea of a good mystery? Is it a cozy mystery with less action, a hardboiled detective mystery, an amateur detective mystery, or one not mentioned here?

Setting and motive are essentials when writing a good mystery. A peaceful setting is used in a cozy story, while in a hardboiled one, the scene usually takes place in a setting where the victim goes alone. *Worry* A cozy mystery is filled with clues and plot; a hardboiled one much tougher to figure out.

The strengths and weaknesses of characters is important. Even if writing something other than a story, describe your characters' assets and vulnerabilities. The same applies to the scene of the crime and how the offense was committed. Keep the reader wondering who and why the act and/or event occurred.

A good mystery is like a game with the writer and reader. The reader tries to figure out the scheme, while the author tries preventing that from happening. The more challenging it is to figure it out, the better the story.

**If you have a good mystery you would like read, post it here or email me. I just love a good mystery! *Delight* **
