Questions From Members.

*Bullet* I wish I knew how to get more reviews.

*Bullet* Hard core reviews are not easy to come by.

*Bullet* I am desperate, repeat desperate for constructive feedback.

*Bullet* I've been getting on every other day only to find 0 mails.

*Bullet* I've been hoping for some reviews on my items.

*Bullet* I thought that the best way to get others to review your work is to review theirs and then they would return the compliment. I find that contributors to the site do this on about 30-40% of times. The rest of the time - - - nothing. Where do people post works on which they would like to have constructive criticism?

*Bullet* I would love knowing before giving a review whether the person would only like back-patting, or if they'd also like constructive tips.

*Bullet* Work can be humorous, personal, emotional, or spontaneous with the writer still wanting to be taken seriously by some constructive tips.

To be noticed, read, reviewed, and rewarded for your work you must take it into your own hands Yeah, you have to post your work into the review forums yourself. If you wait for readers who read randomly to find your work, you're going to have to accept the randomness of the reviews. Don't complain.

Go to the link 'Review Forums' and shop around for the style of reviews you want. You will find what you need. That is, you will find them if the hosts are promoting themselves well. Read their descriptions and check their given reviews. Going to their port and clicking on Reviews Given will open up their public reviews. Read a few, check them out and choose the most helpful according to your own criteria.

And the Answers in Their Own Words.

Hello there. I am a 21 year old nerd, currently studying to become an editor. I don't place a lot of emphasis on my own writing, though I do get a creative buzz now and again. Have a piece you'd like me to read?

Welcome to The Poetry Reveiw! Reviews for poetry of all shapes and sizes. Because I love giving away awardicons and merit badges, when I come across an excellent poem or poet deserving of an award, I'll award them. The amount of prizes given away will depend on the amount of gift points I manage to collect.

If you're looking for honest, in-depth reviews of your poetry, then you've come to the right place. I don't claim to be an expert in poetry, in fact I'm probably not even close. However, I will give you my honest opinion and comments on writing techniques that could prove valuable to your work.

Here's the deal: You drop off writing. I read it and send you a review. Pretty easy, huh?
Reviews through CCN will be public. I will use this signature to denote a review done for CCN: For the record: My opinion is completely unvarnished, but it is still my opinion, and I am entitled to it. By coming here and asking me for it, I operate under the assumption that you have come to me because you would like my unvarnished opinion.

As of this writing my ratings average is just a whisker over three stars. That means a three from me really is average. I don't know where anyone got the idea that average is "BAD." We're amateurs, most of us-- average ought to be pretty good! I try to be as helpful as I can; a five star review on something I didn't completely enjoy and think could be a lot better, isn't helpful. If you like my advice-- pass it on! The best donation I can get is a recommendation to another new reader, writer or reviewer.

This review forum *Down* specialises in brutal honesty. I guarantee you won't get a high rating from here unless you really deserve it.

Writing Hurts: Review Forum Open in new Window. [13+]
I might not ease the pain, but I'll give solid value for your trouble.
by edgework Author Icon

Fiction, Poetry, Scripts, Essays: all are welcome. I might not ease the pain, but I'll give solid value for your trouble.

A good review offers insight into how a piece might be improved (or makes a compelling case that it's complete as is). A great review offers the reader insight on how to be a better writer. That's my bar and I'll strive to reach it.

Let's be frank: if you've been getting 5 star reviews from people who tell you you're great, and you've come to enjoy the accolades, you will find this site a disappointing experience. The truth is, you aren't
great and the sooner you realize that, the better your chances are of one day becoming great. I can't tell you how to be great, but if your dumb mistakes are all that's in the way of a blossoming of your talent,
I might be of some use to you. .

Thank you for visiting Poetry Reviews for Serious Poets. Herein I offer my humble critiques on your poetry and offer advice on how to improve your poetry and how to be a better poet. I have many year experience as a poet and many years experience of online reviewing. I would never go so far as to say I am an expert on anything, but I am dedicated to being a good poet and good reviewer.

You do not need to be a good poet to utilise this service, but please do be dedicated to becoming the best poet you can become.

A Serious Analytical In-Depth Review Is: honest, helpful, (includes comments on your mistakes) rated according to how much work you have left to do for items that you intend to rewrite.

You must intend to continue rewriting the item to make it communicate and function better. Response time ranges from same day to 6-7 weeks, most being done within 1-3 weeks. [As the quality expert Dr. W. Edwards Deming was known to say, "There's no such thing as instant pudding."]

Joe Public is an avid reader and expects your story, article, poem, etc. to draw him in and compel him to read it. If it doesn't, he has plenty of other stories that he can read. The avenues in which to find these stories are plentiful so he doesn't need to waste his time forcing himself to read your stuff. If you don't draw him into your story right away, he's gone and not likely to come back to read your stuff again. With that in mind, I try to look at things like Joe would...

This is a group for people who want their entire novel read and reviewed. Tired of paying GPs for a review that comes too late with too little? or for posting your novel in a review 'in and out' and not hearing anything for months? or joining a group and feeling like your novel gets skipped week after week?

The novel will be broken down by chapters. The novel of the week is the only novel allowed to be reviewed that week. In addition, all members must provide a review every week.

REVIEWERS:
Post your 'public' constructive reviews here to get them noticed by members looking for in-depth reviewers. Make your work easier to find!

TO BE REWARDED:
The review must be less than two weeks old (or it cannot be rewarded). The content must be honest, helpful, and include both positive (at least one positive) and constructive comments. No filler/padding

REWARDERS:
Choose a Review Post. Click on the http link at the bottom of the Review Post. This takes you to the Public Reviews page in the reviewer's port. Use the date and time to scroll down to the review that was indicated. Evaluate the review. Choose and submit a reward for the review. The reviewer may have other in-depth reviews available. Reward as many as you please. Leaving a link or image inside your reward is like leaving an invitation for them to come join you and perhaps they will 'pass it on'.

Submitted Comment: Love it! I always knew a good procrastination served a purpose. Only a fellow procrastinator would understand.

It absolutely does serve a purpose; I don't know what I'd do with my time without it.

Submitted Comment: It is great to see so many good links in one place esprit. While I find the 'My Favorites' click link useful for frequent visits to forums and statics, this newsletter will go in my 'saved' file for easy access and future reference. Thank you.

I'm glad it's useful, Acme. There are many useful articles on site and it's a shame they aren't searched before Google. The advice found here is good.

Submitted Comment: [activities] can be so overwhelming that you may find yourself having so much fun that your writing has taken a backseat.
I have to admit, I have found this to be true. The good news, however, is that in the long run my writing has been much improved by these activities. Reviewing helps me crystallize my own thoughts on writing, and what I like as a reader. Community auctions, raffles, contests, etc., all help me connect to other talented authors and share ideas and thoughts with them. Thank you, esprit, for a newsletter with good links to onsite resources; it reminds me what gems there are here on WDC.

Thanks, Felix. Variety is the name of the game, and is healthy too. Too much of any one thing will drag us down. I think you've said it well. Yes! Power Search beats Google
for tips and tricks. Pass it on!

I betcha if SM placed Power Search beside Google, instead of way down at the bottom of the page, members would remember to try it first. You think?
