"A song ain’t nothin’ in the world but a story just wrote with music to it."~~Hank Williams, Sr.
"I guess you noticed, there's only 11 Roses,
I chose them from the garden, where they grew,
Take the Roses, and look into the mirror,
and the 12th Rose, will be looking back at you"~~Hank Williams, Jr.
Life is a flower of which love is the honey.~~Victor Hugo
You'd give each day more of a reason, if you would only love me now.~~Tracey Lynne Arledge
For the rest of our tomorrows,
we'll multiply our joys by two
and divide in half
the troubles that we see...
With a love that's unconditional
there's nothing we can't do
The rest of our tomorrows, me and you.~~Robin Moyer

Romance. Love Songs. They go hand in hand. (pun intended)
What is a love song but a love poem set to music? Usually it is something of a story poem and can be love, lost love or unrequited love. There's a reason that when you poke 'love song' into Google, you get a list of 'the greatest love songs of all time' or somesuch. People love a good love song!
They can make you remember, or just flat out feel wonderful. They can make you smile and somewhere along the way become associated with specific people. There's a lot of power in a good love song.
The very first time I met my husband twenty years ago, he asked me to dance. Tracey Lynne was singing 'If You Would Love Me Now.' I didn't even know his name at that point, but during that song, I fell in love. It became our song and we'd dance to it whenever we heard it, regardless of where we were at the time. Fast forward twenty-some-odd years during which time we'd been apart and with others. Together again, we finally got married. Tracey called us from South Carolina on her cell phone. We put it on speaker, the DJ held it up to the mike, and, driving down the road, Tracey sang us our song, a Capella.
We danced and cried and it was perfect. A good love song can do that to you.
Ever hear a song you haven't heard in years and, suddenly, you are back in your teens and with that girl (or guy) that you thought was your 'forever love?' Songs let us step back in time and appreciate what might have been or should have been or is or (in some cases) what thankfully wasn't.
We tend to associate songs with certain people. Hearing a song your parents loved or one that reminds you of a childhood friend is like a present and for a few moments at least, even a lousy day becomes immeasurably better!
So try writing lyrics to a song. Write a song for your hubby, best friend or maybe, your dad. (Father's Day is just around the corner!) |

sarahreed comments:First, I want to say thank you so much for featuring one of my stories in your newsletter. I really appreciate it! Bigsmile Second, I wanted to say that I completely agree with you about staying organized. Not just on WDC, but in personal folders on your computer or office. I have folders and folders of misc. writings (both on the computer and all over my office). I keep thinking about how I need to get organized and your newsletter has prompted me to start the onerous task. Thank you!
Organization is a very good (where did I put that word...I know it is here somewhere...*shuffle shuffle* ah! ) thing!
esprit says:Great letter, Fyn! I'm afraid it would take a fire to get me to organize, but it's on my 'some day' goal list.
Better before than after! lol But boy am I ever organized now. But...I can't find ANYthing!
Adriana Noir writes:Great newsletter, Fyn! I think we all need to be reminded to organize our ports once in a while...kinda like how kids need to be told to pick up their rooms!
Hmmm. But (2 syllable pronunciation follows) Mooooo-ooom! |
