BLOOD

When I think of a horror story, I think about one of the best parts...blood. With this month being the month of horror, many of us are writing scary stories for contests. How many times can you say blood in a story without becoming redundant? Not too many. So I thought I'd give you a few alternatives to the word blood and its descriptions.

Technical: serum, hemoglobin, serum, plasma, coagulant, hemorrhage
Anatomy: vessels, capillaries, circulation, vein, aorta, clot, carotid artery, venules, systolic, diastolic, lipids, sclerosis

Adjectives: wet, sticky, tacky, spattered, ropy, soaked, viscous, clot, gore, pallid, filthy, foul, florid, flushed, pale, sallow, grisly, raw, unstaunched, revolting, obscene, revolting, nauseous, vile, slimy, gelatinous, syrupy, waxy, thick, jelled, threadlike

With a little research, your descriptive work can bring your reader further into your story and show them your scene. Push the envelope and horrify your reader. It is what they are looking for.
