Ensemble Pieces

How to manage several players in one book.

After the simple hero and the complex hero comes the questions, what to do when you have several heroes? It might seem overwhelming at first, but with some basic organization, an action adventure can very well have several heroes and still work out just fine and be highly entertaining too.

*PawPrints* Each character should have a solid backstory.

*Tools* Each character should have a specific skill set that helps the hero-team toward their goal.

*ElecGuitar* Each character should have a quirky skill. Something fun that makes them human and likeable.

*Ankh* Life and death. Sometimes, a character on a team has to die to move the story forward or to make the cast more manageable, or to make space for a new player.

*Heart* A typical action/adventure does not require a whole lot of romance, but a dash of romance or at least some emotional friction between some of the characters helps to make everybody feel more real to the reader. How graphic you want to be in this regard is really up to you. From my experience with action/adventure reviewers here on WdC, I'd say the average action/adventure reader is okay with the mention of sensuality, but they don't want to witness it in graphic description.

*Boat2* Depending on your goal for your team - is this a one-time story or a serial - give the story an ending that satisfies the reader in regards to the whereabouts of each hero. Kill them, let them live, make them get married, anything you want as long as you tell us into what type of sunset they ride, drive, or sail off into.

Thank you.

BIG BAD WOLF is Howling Author Icon wrote: At least most heroes don't have to worry about the graboids from Tremors- of course, the learning curve, as present throughout the whole Tremors Series- both the movies and the TV series, is something that many heroes have to deal with. ? I do not know that of which you speak. Must investigate at some point.
