Summer Action/Adventures

How about some adventures that provide escapism over drama?

In an ideal world, we all got to read some pretty intense adventure stories involving pre-teens going off on adventures when we were teens ourselves. Usually, those adventures revolved around finding a lost item, figuring out a mystery, or investigating what happens in the spooky house on the block.

With summer in full swing on the north half of the globe, millions of kids are off school for summer or about to be off school. The long weeks of summer are an ideal condition for adventures. Even if you don't think there should be roving bands of kids running in the streets in real life, imagine the interesting and entertaining adventures kids get into when left alone to explore in a town, on a farm, in nature, or on a spaceship.

Comments I got for my last Action Adventure Newsletter "Let Her LiveOpen in new Window.

Quick-Quill Author Icon wrote: My first MS detailed a detective in search of a missing family. When the bodies of the two youngest girls are found in the river, he tries to find how they got there and were the car with the parents and the last sibling is. True story. I found the story in a newspaper article. Now 57 years later I was contacted here on WDC by a man who is doing more detailed research than I ever could, pre-internet (1984). It was a "mob" hit. Why? oldest girl PG(14 yrs) HMM? Who had that clout? It will never be solved but the journey sure is fun!

I hope the "fun" part of the journey is the investigation. The crime, even if 54 years ago, is horrible. *Frown*

taliah_l wrote: It's funny how the lessons from when we are young sometimes overrule what we are told later on. Your article made a lot of sense, but all I could think about while reading was some writing advice given to me by my primary school teacher: always kill the dog. I mean, sure he probably meant it in the literal sense rather than the crude insult, but whatever.

"Always kill the dog." should not translate into "Always kill the females." So, when I take his advice in a non-literal way, then I can see what he meant: kill somebody who is neither the hero nor maybe the person most in peril, but somebody involved in the action with whom the audience has (hopefully) formed a bond.

*Shock* seriously? You need to find somebody else to kill.
