About This Newsletter

CONTEST & ACTIVITIES NEWSLETTER

Writing.com is a great place to practice your writing, receive reviews and support from fellow members. Being a part of Writing.com's community gives you the validation you need to be the best writer you can be.

I have been an editor for the Contest & Activities Newsletter for almost two years now, and I couldn't be happier. I am lucky to be among a super group of editors who put so much effort and pride into creating informational newsletters with a flair of personal quality.

The Contest & Activities Newsletter will showcase up-to-date contests and will also mention contests that have been around awhile. Contests are not only fun, but a great way to earn gift points, receive constructive reviews and meet fellow writers. If you would like to host a contest or you want to read up on what's going on, you couldn't be in a better place -- all the tips, ideas and encouragement are right here!

There are many activities on Writing.com, such as Campfires, Interactive stories, In & Outs, Madlibs, Survey Forms, User Polls, Word Searches and whatever you, the member, would like to create and share with the community. There is so much fun stuff to talk about, so make sure you stick around!

Letter from the editor

Hello Everybody!

I have been writing for the Contest & Activities Newsletter for almost three years, and what a great time it has been! I have decided to give another member a chance to contribute ideas and information to the writing community. So, this newsletter will be my last edition, but not without mentioning how wonderful and supportive many of you have been to me...it does not go unappreciated.

There are so many fun contests and activities offered on W.C. So if you are new to this newsletter, go find a contest to enter. Participating in contests is good practice to improve your writing and to also win prizes! And activities (poll, campfires, in/outs) are mere fun and you can meet many members.

You are welcomed to visit and read my past editions; I have to find the time to edit many of them, because there are invalid entries due to members leaving the site.

Thank you!

Thank you for the indepth History of Halloween! I have heard many stories over the years about how the holiday started. Very interesting how our holidays evolve through time. Happy Halloween to all!
laurie_o

You're welcome. It was fun to research.

Funny that you should say It is now a nearly universal belief, particularly among conservative Christians. because I've been a Christian for most of my life and never even heard of "Samhain" until coming to Writing.com! Halloween has always been an enjoyable holiday of the imagination for me. Not to mention the candy . But thanks for the interesting history lesson!
rose_shadow

I had no idea about the origin of Halloween or about Samhain myself. It is always great to learn something new and interesting.

Thank you for the informative Halloween newsletter. I enjoyed it having had to write a similar column around this time three years ago.

Newsletter on!
