Urban Myths

When Poltergeists Come to Life

Is there any truth in rumors?

The girls at the local junior high school tell each other that a man dragged a girl into one of the bathrooms during a stand-off with the police. The kids say the perpetrator was shot by police and buried under the sports field.

I can picture it vividly. A man runs onto campus and grabs a random girl standing close by. He drags her into a bathroom stall and barricades himself in there with her. Somehow, the police achieve to rush him, kill him but leave the girl unscathed - aside from bad memories. At night, three of the officers come back to school and a neighborhood kid witnesses how they set up portable lights and dig up a deep rectangle in the middle of the sports field. They drop a long object into the hole and cover it all back up.

This is the story that is going around.

Here is what really happened.

During the winter break of 2013/2014 (no kids around) a man was hunted by the police for being seen with a gun in public. He did indeed barricade himself in one of the bathrooms. It was not disclosed which gender bathroom he chose. After a few hours, the police achieved to get him to come out without shooting a single bullet. The man is alive and in prison.

Talk about an urban myth suburban style!

I got the following responses to my last Horror/Scary newsletter "The Smell of HorrorOpen in new Window.

You're welcome. I found another one to showcase today. *Smile*

Quick-Quill Author Icon wrote: I didn't know what death smelled like until a sat with my dad last night. My sister told me his smell isn't being unwashed. It is the cancer and death beginning the deterioration process. I'll know the next time I write about death, what it smells like. He has just days to live so I may become very familiar with the smell.

My newsletter is well over a year ago. I am sorry for your loss.

Shocking, huh? Makes me not want to travel for fear of what I could find.

willwilcox wrote: Yeah, smells...smells can trigger past memories you thought you had forgotten, and then WHAM, "Oh yeah, I remember that time when I was just a kid and I smelled that same smell." Great Newsletter!

Luckily, sometimes the memories triggered by smells are good memories.
