Safer Writing
How can you protect your writing from deadly deletion?
How much care do you take to protect those precious words you wrote or typed up? If you wrote long hand, it will take quite a bit of a disaster to lose your writing since paper is crash-proof. If you typed on a computer, there are way too many things that can go wrong for you to trust your writing to only that one device.
For a writer, there is nothing worse than spending hours or even days on a piece to see it perma-deleted due to a power outtage, computer problem, or some other electronic mishap.
Saving on your computer:
Set your computer up to auto-save every few minutes. Two is good. Hopefully you can recover whatever you typed in two minutes should your machine glitch.
If you have a printer, make a copy on paper and put it in a safe place.
Email the text to yourself and maybe a trusted friend. Or create email accounts with two different providers. They shouldn't both die on the same day.
Burn your writing to CD or an external drive.
Save it as an item on WdC.
If you are writing on this site directly, make sure to hit that "Save and Edit" button frequently. That way, even if your computer, tablet, or phone loses connection, it's saved to the site. Careful, only the things typed before you hit that save button are saved. So use it often.
A free membership allows you to keep up to ten items stored on the site. However, if you only put your writing up here and then disappear for a long time, your account can get deleted to free up the space on the server. A paid membership allows you more items depending on the membership level, but it reverts back to 10 that you have access to if the paid membership expires. Be sure to keep a copy of everything you post here in another place. Going back to the same methods as above. (print, email, save to computer, save to disc or drive)

In response to my last newsletter "Find the Right Reviewer" , I received the following replies:
Quick-Quill wrote: In reading the responses of those who have found the newsletter section was fun. Oh how I remember the first few years. WDC was still in the growing stages. I finally found the writing 101 and reviewing classes. Then I just kept reviewing. It is a joy to see these comments by some I've reviewed. I know I'm extra careful when reviewing newcomers to the site. I don't want them to get upset when there are things they need to learn. I can say, this community has helped me to become a better writer and I have a novel ready to be published as well as two more to come. I *suiteheart* Writing.com
Great success story right here on Writing.Com!
