With Game of Thrones wrapped up for the year, and the "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS" [13+] camping trip on its last leg, it's time to prepare yourselves for the action-packed week that is the Writing.Com birthday celebration. If you have never participated in the birthday week before, you've been missing out! It's a time when inspiration is flowing from every corner of the site, contests and activities pop up that have been specifically designed for each birthday, reviews fly everywhere and the cherry on top of the cake is that you can win exclusive prizes.
If you are anything like me, you'll look at everything that's going on and want to do it all. I mean, why not? All that fun, all those special contests and games and the opportunity to have a laugh with other members, and those intriguing prompts... I don't know what this birthday celebration will be like – though I have witnessed some plotting already by contest holders – but you might just find that there is too much going on to fully immerse yourself in each and every game. And that's okay. Just have a good look around and pick whatever you like best and whatever suits your schedule.
Some contests and activities run for just a week. Some will run throughout the birthday month. If you are interested in participating, please make sure to check so that you can plan accordingly.
One thing I love about the birthday week is that you get to interact with site members you might have never bumped into before. This site is a community, but like in any community, we tend to hang with out own groups within it. It's good to discover fabulous authors you might have otherwise missed, and get to know new members who might well become good friends over time.
Another thing I love is that you can find yourself in some weird and wonderful challenges. One challenge that's already open for sign-ups is "Invalid Item" . Monopoly on Writing.Com? Cool, huh?
Of course, there will be serious writing contests, too, to prod your muse into action. I'll be hosting a writing contest that is very different from anything I have hosted before, and experience tells me that others will, too. Some established contests will be holding special rounds, so it's good to check those out to see what they're doing to celebrate.
I encourage you, then, to dip your toes into the festive waters. You can mix up the familiar with the unfamiliar, or take a full dive in and simply embrace as much as you can wrap your arms around. You might want to stock up on extra chocolate/coffee/tea/food and drink of choice that helps you write, because I figure you're going to need it!
Throughout it all, don't forget W.Com's official site contest. Not many people tend to participate in them, which is a shame. Astonishing, too, in my opinion, because who wouldn't want a shot at those prizes? A million gift points for first place! Exclusive badges, including the physical version! Please consider giving it a go – you never know, it might be you who becomes the next champion.
