Smile!
That's right, smile! June 15 is National Smile Day. I'm assuming from the website they mean the United States. But those of you from other countries, feel free to smile right along with the Americans. A smile can be a powerful thing. It brings out trust in other people and increases interpersonal relations. Smiling is contagious. Smile and pretty soon everyone in the room is smiling too, and the mood is lighter. Darwin believed we are prewired to connect with other people who smile.
Just like delivering bad news or telling someone something they might not want to hear. Start with a smile and an apology and they're less likely to react negatively to your news. A smile doesn't always help if someone is angry and out of control, you know...some one might get physical. Men smile less than women, apparently a study links that trait to testosterone. So when building a likable character, give them a smile. Or when you want to soften the blow of bad news, give the character a small quirk and softness.
And in your favorite contest or activity, be encouraging and smile. Smiles and laughter are the best medicine, so use the cure in your writing.
And as always, Write On!

DreamTime, my dragon muse here, loves to invent, read and write tales of all types. Your challenge is to do the same. In each round you will be given a dragon prompt to create a specific poem or tale. So listen carefully to dragonspeak as you look him in the eye. He is very telepathic!
The keenest joker is a poet of description. Short (three sentences or less) and to the point. Creativeness is a requirement for this contest. Write something establishing an Ah-ha or hmm moment and you could win gift points, possibly becoming the next keenest joker.
Write about a day in the life of your occupation...whether it be a Homemaker, a Lawyer, a Janitor or and Engineer...whatever your path is, write about it and let us in on the true aspects of the job.
Excerpt: The TFPD deals with unusual and bizarre cases in all fields of criminal investigation, from situations of identity theft through to assault and murder, drug smuggling and people trafficking, and high tech robbery. Though only a small organization of exceptional officers and operatives, its jurisdiction and budget is extensive, and it has access to the bleeding-edge of top-secret military hardware.

Excerpt: But did you know that 30% of US-based Nobel Laureates were immigrants, or the children of at least one? More than 40% of Fortune 500 companies were founded by such Americans. Let's see if you know their countries of origin, or what they achieved.

Our challenge is to create a non-static item about power. I've loosely interpreted that to mean powerful authors from my own book/reading collection. Some of these are obscure but most are well known. Best of luck!
